Cool story about the dog. He belonged to Turk Edwards (No. 17) and his name was "Brick". He was considered a good luck charm b/c of something that happened in the first game of the Championship Season.

Quote:
Before their first game (home against the Giants), Brick got into the [Redskins] locker room and stole the pants of back-up tail back, Max Krause (No. 25), from his locker while the players were getting ready for the game. Krause (who didn't particularly like the dog) tried to get his pants back. Brick growled at Krause, lunged at him and then chased Krause around the locker room (Imagine a football locker room in the 30's and you can imagine just how amused the rest of the team was by this). Edwards eventually got Brick under control and much laughter ensued. At game time, Krause had to wear the torn pants because, back in the day, George Preston Marshall didn't splurge for extras.

Krause had played for the Giants for the previous four years and was a pretty run of the mill player. Well, on the first play of the game Cliff Battle loses his shoe and comes out to fix it. Krause goes in and breaks a long run, going 65 yards for a touchdown (his only one of the year it turns out). As Krause is running down the sideline, Battle shouts out "Hey look, Maxie thinks Brick is still chasing him!" - cementing the team's adoption of Brick as the mascot for the year. From then on, Brick went on every road trip and got into every locker room. No one knows, however, if Krause got new pants.
