I still sell things on eBay with success...just depends on what you have and if it's worth it.
I made a $40.00 profit on a DE safety razor last year.
Many more razors had $15-20 profits for me. I've bought them from antique shops for $1 to $5, restored, polished and re-sold a few times. Sometimes I'll restore one, use it for a while and sell. They're very profitable when you shine them up. I sold a lot of my rotation/collection right before the baby was born for some extra coin and space.
The fees are getting worse though. You get whacked by eBay and PayPal too.
Before Christmas, I bought a lot of 10 monster truck diecast toys (Hot Wheels) from CL locally for $20, gave my son 4 of them and sold the other 6 which were rare, older ones and not only made my money back, but almost doubled it at $36, plus my son had 4 tough-to-find trucks to keep. Sold them in two lots of 3 trucks so I wouldn't have to deal with so many auctions, fees and shipments.
Like I said, if you find something with value or is in demand for cheap, flipping it on the Bay is easy money.
Flipped a Blackberry Storm that someone gave me to "recycle" or do what I want to with after upgrading their phone last year...sold for $80.00, all profit to me.
