Re: Expectations for Griff and the 2012 Offense
I expect the offense to at least be as good as last year when it was 16th in yards.
But, I look for an uptick in points.
Last year it was 26th in scoring with 18 pts a game.
Regardless of the reasons that guided Kyle's previous offenses, I expect a more balanced offense then what we've seen thus far.
I expect an offense that will have a run focus similar to Houston's offense last year and more in keeping with a typical Mike Shanahan's Denver WCO's (especially with Jake Plummer).
I also expect a sprinkling of some read option concepts in the offense.
No where near as much as Denver or even the Panthers.
(^^Although I think it would be a great concept or idea)
I expect to see a lot of boot action/boot keep passing and 5-7 step drop play action passing.
To establish the boot action/play action passing attack I expect more rushing attempts which in turn will create more rushing yards.
The increase in rushing attempts will cause corresponding decrease in passing attempts which will cause a decrease in passing yards.
My expectations for the Griffin's level of success and the teams W-L rest mainly on the shoulders of Kyle Shanahan.
I don't think Griffin will need to run spread or read option concepts to be successful, nor do I expect that Kyle would add a lot of the spread/read option concepts/plays.
I think Griffin is coach proof, he's so talented its gonna be hard to screw him uo.
I think its a no brainer that he'll do well in this offense.
But, to exceed expectations and really have a good season (ala Newton, Andy Dalton) Kyle is gonna have to build an offense that allows Griff to not only play well for a rookie but to flourish.
But, again even running the same offense we had last year with a little more balance and without read-option or a lot of spread 5 wideout the offense with Griffin should still be good.
