Just out of curiousity I checked Gibbs defenses in both stints. Like Shanny an offensive mind that became a HC. Pretty impressive. From 1981-92 and 2004-07 he only had 2 bad defenses. 1988 ranked 26 and 2006 ranked 27. That's alot of years in between. He had 7 top ten defenses including a 1
and a 2 ranked defense. 4 ranked 11. And after his first year ranked at 16, only twice had a defense ranked below 13....which were the 2 bad defenses I mentioned. Pretty consistent.
