Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?

I think the real question should be, why did Mike agree to coach this team knowing that it was in total shambles and needed a major overhaul?

My biggest gripe with Shanny from day one is that he didn't declare it a rebuild, and traded valuable picks for a aging QB and broken down LT. Why not just suck it up, keep JC and bring in Rex to battle for the spot, and build through the draft and FA. Just hold tight until a QB could be drafted (like this year) and roll from there.

However, I had read some answer from his initial interviews when he first got here and KNEW it was going to take more than 3 years to clean out the old aging vets, and get young talent. When the said he told his son Kyle not to come that this place was a mess. It says a whole lot.

Quote:
“I’m the one that told Kyle not to come,” he said. ”I said, ‘This is going to be a work in progress. It’s not going to happen over night. And you were on an established team. You’ve got your ducks in order.’”

So again, why in the hell did he take this "trap" of a job? I assume it's because he had a huge chip on his shoulder to prove people wrong. He may have bit off more than he could chew with this mess we had. I firmly believe you don't correct 20 years of horrible culture and mismanagement with 2-1/2 years. It's not going to happen.
