I'm tired of people saying this. Our offensive line is horrible at pass protection. Because of it, RGIII is FORCED to scramble and run. When he does this, he takes hits. He doesnt have the body frame to take these hits. I say all this, not to trash the o-line, but to explain that its not playcalling or scheme, or RGIII's "style of play" thats responsible for RGIII taking hits. Although we run alot of option, we have very few DESIGNED runs. Generally, RGIII only runs when protection breaks down. If he did not have the ability to run, he'd take a sack. RGIII's "style of play" means he gets hit after scrambling for 5 yards instead of getting hit when he's sacked for a 8 yard loss.
Anyway, RGIII will continue to take hits frequently for the forseeable future. Because of that, we NEED a good backup quarterback who can do what Cousins did vs. the Browns. Cousins is more valuable to us than a 2nd round pick, which is the most anyone would give us for him now (and i dont think we could get that. Id rather just hold on to him, draft another young QB, and then trade Cousins next year if that guy develops. Cousins value will only go up when he plays more games for an injured RGIII. I'd also be happy just to hold on to cousins until his contract is up, let him sign somewhere, and then get a 3rd round compensatory pick when he gets starter money somewhere.
Now if someone offered us a first - theyd be crazy - but we'd be crazy not to take it.
