We run the option alot, but most of the time RGIII drops back to throw or hands off to Morris. Its rare that RGIII actually
runs from the option as a designed play.
Generally, he drops back to throw and runs because protection breaks down before a receiver gets open. As i said, he takes hits in the open field instead of taking sacks, which is what would happen with someone like rex behind center. but he'd be taking the same number of big hits.
RGIIIs "style of play" is
not more likely to get him injured than if he were a pure drop back passer. That was my point. Its the o-line thats responsible for RGIII taking hits. If they did their job well, RGIII wouldnt have to run and he could stay back and throw. He'd have something like 500 less running yards and 750-1000 more passing yards.
Regardless, until we can fix the o-line, we need Kirk Cousins. He's under contract 2 more years and i'd be shocked if he left before then unless we got a ridiculous offer.
