Re: Ramsey, Brunell - Arms race
Ramsey is clearly working to develop his touch pass. And he needs to. He's got to be able to put air under the ball so his speedy WRs can run onto it. That's what you are seeing on the deep ball, I think. I was impressed. I especially liked the sideline pass to Patten where Patten draged the foot to stay in bounds. That fell in between the deep and short coverage and went a long way, right into Patten's hands. I NEVER have seen PR throw a ball like that. (It impressed Theisman, too, I recall.)
I have no doubt that Ramsey still has his gun--you see it alot when he hits Cooley or a back in the middle of zone coverage or at the goalline.
Clearly, Ramsey needs to continue to develop his touch and precision--he's got the arm, now he needs to become a PASSER. Which is the right way to do it--you can't teach power.
As for Brunnell, I didn't see that half (in fact, the only highlights I saw were courtesy of Skins_fanatic's web site), so I can't tell. One thing for sure: he couldn't POSSIBLY have less zip than last year! He'll never have a canon, but it's good to hear he can get some mustard on it when he needs to. His game has always been more about precision and his improv ability. If his legs and elbow are healthy, that should be back. All this is great news: we need an experienced backup if Ramsey goes down or can't perform. But I would stick with PR until week 8 at least, IMHO.
