For whatever small amount it's worth...
As a servicemember who was serving during Sept. 11th, I was impressed, if that's even the right word, when Pat decided to join up.
I actually started to tear up yesterday when I heard that he'd been killed. What an amazing american. His sacrifice was no greater than the many other men and women who have given their lives for our great nation, but the fact that he was willing to give up fame and fortune to serve was a reminder that debate about the validity of the conflicts we are currently engaged in is just Free Speech, the right to which is provided by the blood of heroes like Pat Tillman.
I don't believe the earlier quotes and comments were meant as an indictment of anyone not serving, merely as an appreciation of those who do.
I am grateful for people like Pat Tillman and I will keep him, his family and his brother, who is still fighting, in my thoughts and prayers.
