Or perhaps they could have made another reach and gotten a 2nd round guy in the first again (Bruce Irvin example).

Rich Eisen pointed out that the last 3 WR trades involving first rounders have been awful (Peerless Price, Roy Williams, Deion Branch). Add to that that Percy Harvin has yet to play a full season in the NFL, suffers from migraines, wants Calvin Johnson money, and couldn't even get along with Leslie Frazier, and IMO you have a trade that has more bust than boom.
