No one can predict an injury - especially one like this that could be career-ending.
My point is, did Bruce Allen really think Alex Smith was the QB answer for the next 4-5 years for the Redskins? An aging, decent QB whose win-loss record looks great because he played for an outstanding team like the Chiefs. IMO, Bruce panicked because people were criticizing him about the Cousins situation (justified), so he overpaid and gave a long contract to an average QB to keep the team in the .500 range. If the team plays 7-9 or 8-8 then Allen can say: "we're ALMOST there". "We're just a player or two from the next level up". That's why Bruce win-loss record sux, because he sets low goals and is happy to make it.
