Draft Scout Player News 12/01/05 - PLAYER OF THE YEAR: QB Matt Bohnet had a good but not great year, but his value was apparent when he missed time (one game and parts of two others) with an ankle injury. His production slipped this year, but he still passed for 14 TDs with just five interceptions while averaging 218.1 passing yards per game with a 62.7 percent completion rate.11/10/05 - Matt Bohnet showed why he has become the difference-maker in the Eastern Michigan offense the past two seasons. Bohnet returned to the lineup on Nov. 5 after missing two games with an ankle injury. He completed a school-record 39 passes on 57 attempts for a career-best 398 yards and four touchdowns. He rallied the Eagles from a 37-17 deficit to within 37-36, but couldn't complete the comeback as Western Michigan claimed a 44-36 win in the Collegiate Clash at Ford Field in Detroit. "That's kind of been the story the last couple of games. We get close and then on those one or two plays, we're not getting those breaks." said Bohnet on his team's failure to capitalize at crucial times in the 44-36 loss to Western Michigan. 11/04/05 - Eastern Michigan has plenty to play for in the final month of the season, but a major question in that process looms overhead. Which quarterback will run the offense? Matt Bohnet, the starter since last season, hasn't been able to play the past two games because of a severely sprained ankle. Redshirt freshman Tyler Jones filled the spot and played well in losses to championship threats Northern Illinois and Miami. Making the decision really sticky is the way Jones moved the offense, which had stagnated before Bohnet was injured. What to do, what to do? "Both kids could have some positives ... Matt from an experience standpoint in knowing how to distribute the ball real quickly ... (and) Tyler's athleticism could help him avoid the blitz because he's hard to tackle," EMU coach Jeff Genyk said. "We'll see how Matt looks (this week in practice) and make a decision from there." There's still a question about how well Bohnet can run on his bad ankle, and that has an impact on how well the Eagles' spread offense functions. A decision on which player starts likely won't be announced before Saturday's game against Western Michigan. 11/03/05 - Senior QB Matt Bohnet hasn't practiced since being injured Oct. 8 against Toledo. Tyler Jones has filled in and played well in Bohnet's absence, giving coach Jeff Genyk a tough decision on which one will start this week. 10/26/05 - Starting quarterback Matt Bohnet sat out the Oct. 22 game against Miami with a sprained ankle. His replacement, redshirt freshman Tyler Jones, nearly led the Eagles to an upset victory. If Bohnet doesn't regain his mobility before the team's next game, Nov. 5 against Western Michigan, Jones will likely start again. |
