The Descent
Anyone catch it this weekend? I'm going in an hour to see it for the third time!
Peep out the extended ending on youtube (I actually prefer this ending... it kind of adds relevance to a few scenes throughout the movie): Director's Ending Don't watch the alternate ending if you haven't seen the entire film (or else it won't make any sense)... |

I'm looking forward to it, does it live up to the hype as being a true scary movie? |

Re: The Descent
SPOILER: In White Text Bellow:
I didn't like some of the cliche "jump" stuff where they show quick scenes just to fuck with you. Once you find out what the creatures are the movie loses its "scary" edge.. Overall it was a good movie...more movies should have all female cast :p

Re: The Descent
might be a spolier, probably not. I didn't see any commercials for this movie because all of a sudden, i don't watch any tv.

plus i think it's head and shoulders above most horror flicks, in terms of writing and acting. it's actually got some serious character subtexts underneath the main storyline (it may have been just me, but i kind of noticed the film's small commentary on the female group dynamic and interaction). the movie is actually getting close to "blair witch" hype- and i think that type of hype is going to make it a less enjoyable experience if too much is expected. I was just lucky enough to see it for the first time before all the hype kicked in (now i'm just as guilty of adding to it hehehe)- but i definitely recommend seeing it on the big screen before it leaves the theater. |

in terms of the extended ending: (spoilers in white text) I think the final scene with her snapping back into the cave shows sarah's final "descent" into madness. Throughout the film, you've got her hallucinating about her daughter and the cake, visualizing her own impaling death, hearing her daughter's laughter throughout the cave... so it's not like the extended ending was a cheap way out: sarah had been slowly losing it the entire time. i agree with you that the cake scenes make absolutely no sense without the uk ending. in the american release, the two visions sarah has of her daughter and the cake are meaningless until the final scene showing her still trapped in the cave with her daughter across from her. With the screams of the monsters closing in, sarah is finally about to be reunited with her kid. Even though the extended ending seems darker (nobody survives), sarah's closure is much more peaceful in death (as opposed to the american ending where it's foreshadowed that she'll live the rest of her life in mental horror from what happened in the cave). |

Re: The Descent
I was suprised how much I really liked this movie cuz horror movies normally suck the past 10 years or so. cool atmosphere, good amount of gore, and decent acting. definitely buying when it comes to dvd and did anyone get the saw 3 trailer when they saw the movie? looks like a lot more death traps :thumb:

Re: The Descent
Alright, I need to check this one out. I love scarey movies, even bad ones for some reason.

Re: The Descent
it was awesome hearing the rest of the audience groan and gasp at certain gorey scenes. the funniest response was this lady who was sitting right behind me who at point of the movie told whomever she was with that she couldn't watch cuz it was too gross and was gonna close her eyes until the scene was over.
