Mike Rumph just a man not superhero.

This is an early article that pulls Mikes card.
San Francisco 49ers

History of being torched.
San Francisco 49ers

He wasnt playing when we torched them in '05 and '04. It seems his upside is tackling though the 49ers on WP say he cant do that either. I think we can move forward with him not so much for his immediate need of ability but a role he can ease into getting use of him by his experience. Maybe he can keep Morton/Patterson company.

His draft report.

It's a good lateral move, we had too many recievers and not enough depth at CB. Taylor Jacobs wasn't going to make the team anyway, at least this way we get something for him. Now if we can just keep all our injury prone corners from being hurt at the same time.

i dont know anything about rumph except for what i just read and i love this trade already. jacobs isnt an nfl receiver and we could use a corner. and like i said before, the more guys from the U, the better. if our coaches cant get the best out of him, then next season he will be out of the league

He had alot of upside coming out of college.

Maybe Williams and company can help get him back on track.

He seems to fit the mold of a GW corner... big, physical, and versatile.

Worst case he gets cut - so would Jacobs; best case he gets Williamsized and lives up to his potential. I'd say we can't lose.

This way, we at least get to hear Jacobs badmouth the franchise on the way out the door. August just doesn't seem right unless Rod Gardner (who?) or Darnerian McCants (huh?) is telling someone how we missed out on a good thing.

Re: Mike Rumph just a man not superhero.

IMHO an average corner with upside potential is worth more than an average receiver with upside potential. Corners are tougher to come across, and even if this guy can only become a nickel and dime package guy, that is better than a 5th or 6th receiver with no heart.

I also liked the post someone made about Nolan getting run out of town here a few years ago. Frankly, if Williams and his staff of ex D-coordinators see something in this guy worth going after, then I have a lot more confidence in their judgement than Mike "prevent-d in the third quarter" Nolan.

It's a good deal for us. We have WR depth, especially with Espy's great preseason. We have always needed secondary depth. It seems even when we had it, we'd have enough injuries to wish we had MORE.

Besides, it finally rids us of Taylor Jacobs. We could trade him for a BBQ grill and I'd love the deal.

Re: Mike Rumph just a man not superhero.

Here is how I break this trade down:

Jacobs: Entered the league with high expectations due in large part to speed.
Rumph: Entered the league with high expectations due in large part to speed.

Jacobs: Frequent injuries derailed player development and led to repuation as an underachiever.
Rumph: Frequent injuries derailed player development and led to repuation as an underachiever.

Jacobs: Likely to be cut.
Rumph: Likely to be cut.

Looks like a great deal for both players who each get a chance at a fresh start. It will be a great deal for the team of the player takes advantage of this second chance.

this was the best case senario because if we would have cut gim he would have wound up on an NFC East team giving away the secrets to our new playbook... at least this way he doesn't go somewhere that will hurt us and if rumph can balance out to first round talent then even better

Hmm..Tim Hassleback anyone?

It is interesting how the 49ner's are quickly becoming our New York Jets of the the West.

The real question is how is he on Madden 07?

Re: Mike Rumph just a man not superhero.

I like the trade in that we add depth to a position so desperately needed. On the other hand, what disturbs me most is, all around the area of CB seems to be injuries. Shawn Springs had problems late last season and is having some problems now. Carlos Rogers had lingeering problems most of last year and has had some early problems this year. Mike Rumph in his brief NFL career has been beset with injury. I guess my biggest concern is how we're going to use injured players as depth for injured players. Kenny Wright was a drum Sunday night, and Jimoh is having problems also. Let's hope this injury problem somehow finds a way to no onger be a concern or we could have serious problems later on.
