Is the defensive line back?

They've been missing the last 4 weeks, and over that time period the run defense fell from 4th in efficiency to 21st. This week, they played a great game, shut down all of Barber's room to run, and pressured Romo.

Is the DL back, or was this just a one game thing?

They are better than last year. But not good enough to be dominate. Our D-line is just average.

I guess we'll see next week where they are headed.

They stepped up yesterday against Barber, and they've been better overall than I thought they would be going into the season. Montgomery has been a major find. Add an excellent two way DE in the draft, and this DL will be better than average next season. Imagine if we had a guy like Ware? How about Umenyiora? To think we could have drafted either just plain hurts.

Were we watching the same game? The DL didnt get any pressure, Romo had all day, you have to hold the ball for quite a while in order to throw 50 yard bombs.

The one person I was really worried about yesterday was Barber, and they shut him down, so terms of run defense, they played very well. I'm still not sold on the front four being relied on to apply pressure though. Carter is the only real threat, so if he's contained, they'll get zero to one sack a game like yesterday.

I said they stepped up and stopped Barber, which very few teams have all season. I agree that we need to get more pressure from the front four, hence the comment to draft a great 2-way DE.

No. You can throw a bomb right off the five step drop if no one picks up the receiver. That's what was happening yesterday.

The secondary has to pick up the receivers running deep, at least initially to try to delay the throw. Can't blame the line for that.

So would you say that the dallas D line did a great job too since C. Portis only got 36 yards? Nope. both teams forgot about the run and got into a shoot out through the air.

Montgomery is only going to get better. That was a real nice find by the FO. But we need somone in the worst way coming off the edge that can create some havoc. And right now we just don't have anybody.

Yes, I would also say that the Dallas front 7 did a great job on Portis. His 3 yard average per carry had something to do with Saunders abandoning the run, plus Campbell was moving the ball through the air with greater efficiency. The key to beating Dallas is forcing Roy Williams to have to cover somebody. As soon as you allow Williams to play like another linebacker, you're playing into their hands.

Soupmeister - how about drafting Chris Long of Virginia?

Long would be a PERFECT fit. No pun intended, but he will be LONG gone by the time we're on the clock. The scary thing, New England might be in position to get Long since they own SF's 1st round pick.

Re: Is the defensive line back?

there were times yesterday when the redskins had Colson, Montgomery, Carter, and Wilson on the field together. all on the younger side. and then they would use Evans. they are trying to get younger, and they played OK against a good Dallas oline

You think so? Is he a top 15 pick?
