Although the Pabst Brewing Co bought up a bunch of smaller breweries and have turned them around (Pabst Blue Ribbon won a Gold in 2006 for American Style Premium Lager). And I've never brewed myself. A buddy of mine has before, and what he made was pretty good. While it would be fun, I've just never done it.

Re: 2008 World Beer Cup
No kidding. I'd like to know what the other 25 entries were that weren't as good as Steel Reserve...

Re: 2008 World Beer Cup
Steel reserve...are you kidding me? Steel Reserve? I would rather drink antifreeze than Steel reserve. That was the cheap stuff that I used to buy when I couldn't afford Natural Ice or Millwaukee's best. I mean, that was the stuff that I bought when I was really scraping the bottom of the barrel for cash. I couldn't give Steel Reserve away after I bought it. How in the hell did it win a gold Medal in anything other than the "American Lager that tastes like paint thinner" category?

Re: 2008 World Beer Cup
See, this is why I laugh every time I see one of those Miller Lite ads where they're boasting that they've won so many World Beer Cups.

Re: 2008 World Beer Cup
So is the World Beer Cup some kind of fluff competition where the majority of people win awards?

I'm from Frederick, and the best deal for quality beer by far is the Wild Goose assorted 12 pack. Stout, IPA, Porter, and a brown ale I believe. Great value.

Re: 2008 World Beer Cup
I took the Wild Goose/Flying Dog Brewery tour, and they said their Variety Packs outsell their non-variety packs offerings 4 to 1...and the packaging is all done by hand. I kinda felt bad, knowing that I've purchased several Wild Goose variety packs in my day, and have help keep the workers there late nights. Oh well. Good beer is good beer...
