I'm kinda surprised there hasn't been any responses from those that seem to think we're lacking in depth.

Actually no. The crickets I'm hearing in this thread was about what I expected.
Now if the article had blasted the team for not having depth I'm sure we'd have about 50 reponses by now. |

I still think the skins have OL DL LB and CB lack of depth. considering that we have an old OL that cant stay healthy. Carlos Rogers isnt 100% and SS cant stay healthy for a whole season. Our LBs there is a huge ? with McIntosh and Washington cant stay healthy. I dont think we have much depth at DL either, if either of our ends go down we are in serious trouble.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find an NFL roster that doesn't lack some depth at a few positions. The key is we suffered through quite a few injuries last year and still managed to make the playoffs. That's a testament to our quality of depth.

Re: Depth serves teams well over course of NFL grind
I feel like the Taylor trade upgrades the DLine enough to where I'm not too concerned about the depth along the line. I know we lost a starter (who Taylor replaces) and Buzbee who would have been lucky to make the team. I feel like the D Line could be pretty good, but I'm still a little concerned if anyone misses significant time. They have good players for a rotation, beyond that, I'm too impressed with them.
As for Linebackers...I'm stil not sold. I like HB Blades, but can he play outside? Can Washington and Rocky stay healthy? That has be a little concerned. I hope that someone emerges in camp or we bring a veteran OLB. I really feel fine about the D backs and have never been concerned about the offense. I do have some concerns about the depth of the front 7, but I think this team will be okay. |

But there are still areas of significant concern. LB is dangerously thin given Rogers' recovery and Marcus being prone to injury. While Reinhart and Heyer give you good depth along the line, center is a big issue too. You're right in saying that every team is going to have issues, though. Overall, we do pretty well for ourselves, mainly because of our QB and RB situation. Without a 2nd QB and a 2nd RB, you're in trouble in the NFL. We're pretty safe there.

Depth at LB is probably the biggest concern, though I believe Taylor and Wilson are unofficially considered LB depth.

Re: Depth serves teams well over course of NFL grind
Yeah I think a large part of TC's success last season was the fact that he knew Saunders' offense like the palm of his hand. He's going to have to learn Zorn's offense just like everybody else this season, so if he has to step in he's basically gonna have to prove himself all over again IMO.
Still though, I like our depth, except at center (I'd rather not see our whole line have to shift around if Jansen has to fill in at center), linebacker (other than Campbell and Blades I have no idea who our other backups are, Campbell is good for the left side but I still don't know if Blades would be expected to back up Rocky and Fletcher, or if he's going to shift to WLB and stay there). Cornerback we should be good at once Rogers gets back, until then we have ok depth. Safety depth is fine, along with running back, wide receiver, tight end, and guard/tackle depth. I think we should pick up another defensive end but once that happens we'll be fine at DE depth, and DT depth is fine imo.

Re: Depth serves teams well over course of NFL grind
Yeah that and CB is a huge concern. I hope the o-line stays healthy becuase our starters are much better than our back-ups at that position in my opinoin. I guess playing all three of our road division games early is a benefit because we should be healthy that early in the year. They'll be healthy too tho.

Re: Depth serves teams well over course of NFL grind
I'd say our lack of depth at a few spots is just relative lack of depth. As others have said several positions where our depth is second to none. CB (w/ Rigers' recovered) WR, QB, TE, OT, OG. We do have position specific shortages like LB (inside and out) and center for sure but I expect we'll sure up C a little if none of our current OLinement show aptitude for sliding in. As for LB it is our gamble this year. It's not like we haven't tried. It seems we've been drafting LBs every year until this year. None them have stuck much other than Blades and there are questions about him.

Re: Depth serves teams well over course of NFL grind
WoW! Pat Kirwin, from NFL.com says that the B&G have as much back-up depth at #2 QB (T.Collins), #2 RB (L.Betts), #3 OT (T.Wade), #3 WR (D.Thomas), #2 OG/C (J.Fabini), #2 TE (F.Wake-up Davis), #3 DT (K.Gholston), Nickle CB (F.Smoot), and #3 S (S.Schweigart), as only four other NFL teams, the vykes, bux, squeelers, and e-girls.
This is huge! Actual pre-season hype for our beloved B&G from an actual talking head! It only takes one talking head to start the bandwagon! I'm on! Are you with me? ![]()
