Smoke Signals: 'Marketing won't win a playoff game' edition

Why are Dan Snyder's Redskins all sizzle and no steak?
Why is 7-6 not as bad as you think it is?
Who practiced today and who did not?
What exactly do wide receivers do during practice?

The answers to those questions and more in today's edition of Smoke Signals. Read it now.

Way too big a deal is being made out of the Pro Bowl voting. Way too big

Re: Smoke Signals: 'Marketing won't win a playoff game' edition

The Redskins franchise is ultimately a team. The owner makes sure the money is right, handles the business side of things and hires good FO folks. The FO and owner jointly decide on a head coach. The HC and FO decide on the other coaches on staff. The coaching staff handles their areas of responsibility, and the players...play.

Snyder is doing what he believes is best and what he can help do for the franchise. If it's marketing and making sure money is never an issue, then he's doing his job. When he was "meddling" everyone screamed for him to get out of the football side of the Skins. He does that and focuses on things an owner should do and now he's criticized for something else. Did Snyder set up a web-server and automate votes for the Pro-Bowl? Of course not. Who placed all those votes for undeserving Skins to go to the Pro Bowl....the FANS. A group of which you are a part of. Maybe the fans should've been a bit more respectful of the Pro Bowl voting and not placed votes for some of the Skins who aren't playing at a Pro Bowl level. (Sellers should at least be in the discussion at FB, the others you mentioned, agree.)

What I also find interesting is that Snyder is doing the same things he was doing when we were 6-2 as he is now, but we lose a few games and out come all the finger-pointers. I don't mean this to be an insult, but the tone of this article seems to me to be very Sally Jenkins-ish.

I agree. Just be glad it's not like major league baseball, where the fans vote for the starters...the NFL would probably pay Suisham to stay home.

Calling Vinny the "L'il General's Errand Boy" was priceless. I nearly spit diet coke all over my computer screen.

If all the receivers do is run and run without purpose then that is very disturbing and would go along way in explaining why they cannot catch anything on Sundays. I really hope it isnt true though....

Re: Smoke Signals: 'Marketing won't win a playoff game' edition

Let’s hope this ridiculous campaign by the team fails and players like LaRon Landry, Mike Sellers, Khary Campbell, Cornelius Griffin and — most especially — Shaun Suisham do not make the Pro Bowl.

Sellers is a top FB and Khary Campbell is a hell of a ST'er.. so I don't see how ridiculous those are
