Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Eagles)
Well, that wasn't necessarily a pretty win but it was a strong win. And a key win. Regardless of the playoff picture, it was important to see how the team would respond after arguably the worst loss of Zorn's brief career. There is still a lot of work to be done, but I was happy to see the team fight for a win after such an awful loss to the Bengals.
Time to lay the smack down Fred SmootWell at least you made a great tackle at the end, but otherwise you are so far below the other corners in talent and level of play it's not even funny. On the other hand, we do have three pretty good corners ahead of you so it's not like they're crap. Still, maybe you should learn to start returning punts or something because I don't know how much longer you can even last on the team the way you're playing now Jason FabiniHere's a riddle for you. What's the difference between Fabini and a turnstile?...When you find out let me know. He was just brutal Antwaan Randle ElYou had one good return, but otherwise...you couldn't run past Jason Fabini Zorn/Smith/SuishamWhere's the disconnect here? Why does Suisham keep getting sent out to attempt kicks he clearly has no shot anymore of making? Jason TaylorWhere have you been, you crazy bastard? Two sacks, a forced fumble, encouraging Zorn to make a successful challenge. Maybe your comments this week were just what you needed to unburden yourself. Sucks you didn't just say all that in week one Anyone who thinks this game was pointless, and even that a loss would have been better Please...

The offense ... same old story. Couldn't run, couldn't pass. It's a good thing the Eagles O for one week decided to be as inept as the Redskins O.

I think it was important for the team to show they haven't quit on Zorn. It wasn't pretty, but a win and a sweep of the Eagles is a small but much needed consolation for these miserable last few weeks.

One another note, SGG will be taking over the segment next week to close out the season. I'll be away

I thought it was a good game. Offense still needs a ton of work, it just seems like in important downs thye always miss by half a step.

It was great to see them win. It was good to see that they didn't pack it in.
Seriously though, why is Suisham attempting 54 yarders? |

I think the W was important for Zorn and the team. However, Zorn really doesn't have much to do or anything to do w/ the D. This game was won by the D. The offense had little to do w/ this win. His offense regressed a little more yesterday. It was horrible. So not saying the offense quit, but they were flat out bad.

Yesterday made it really obvious that Campbell doesnt have it. The problems arent reads, learning a new system, or anything like that, its simple stuff like missing wide open receivers by a mile. Even his completions required the receivers to make great catches on poorly aimed balls. When the Skins get a QB the O will go until then its the same old thing.

London Fletcher: May be the best MLB we've ever had.
ARE: He had one good punt return but he needs to be phased out of our WR rotation and relieved of his punt duties. He doesn't even look that fast anymore. Jason Taylor: That's the JT that I remember. D. Hall: Never cared for this guy, but he played a hell of a game yesterday. Marcus Washington: It might be over in Washington but you're one of my favorite players over the last 5 years or so. JC: It's amazing this guy has had so many games that you're not sure if it was good or bad. JC fell asleep on a few sacks where he should have been able to step up. Zorn: Turned into Gibbs there in the second half. Run, Run, pass...punt. Where's the originality? How about going for the win? Sense of urgency? We've said this a million times w/ Gibbs, but his lack of attack almost cost us the game. |

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Eagles)
The win is big and lays to rest at least for the moment that JZ has lost the team and strenghtens his position going forward. One of my chief concerns which has been touched on, it appears JC plays "not to lose". He must shed that style. Other more serious concerns, often he cannot hit the reciever in stride and routinely misses seeing open recievers downfield. He does not do a very good of buying time as protection breaks down. Most disturbing, this has become his style of play, not a quirk and must change if he/we are to be successful.
Enclosed is link to Jason Fabini training vid: Salmon Commercial - Bear Fight - Video PS, I beat Fabini 3 out of four in pre game warm-up

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Eagles)
Let's be honest here, we played no better than we have done for weeks.
The main reason we won was because the Eagles stunk the place up and didn't take the opportunities they had to win the game.

Agreed. That's the true reality of it.

Quote:
You could tell Zorn had a big weight lifted after the win. Yes, his WCO is still a major work in progress, but Zorn was right about the players not quitting. That says a lot about them and Zorn's leadership.

We have lost similar games this year. I imagine those teams take credit for those wins. Any given day...........

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Eagles)
Jason Fabini should quit his day job... how we ended up w/ this guy as our backup AGAIN leaves me speechless. Rhinehart, oh Rhinehart, where art thou?
I spent more time watching the o-line this game than ever before, from the snap to downfield blocking, and I just can't come to the conclusion that an addition or two is going to solve our problems. I know Samuels will come back strong - we're set at LT. Pete at this point is our 2nd best lineman on the roster IMO (best active lineman currently), but do we want to count on him through another grueling season? Age, arthritis. Rabach has to go. I'm on the fence about Thomas. He struggles to block big, strong tackles (run or pass). Some think he's having a down year, like GTripp who I respect, but again do we want to count on him through another grueling season. Finally, we don't have anyone for RT. If we go into yet another season w/ Jansen-Heyer as the only options i'm gonna keep my eyes closed when we have the ball. Heyer is an effing horrible run-blocker. He goes way too high and can't turn on a merry-go-round. So... we need to draft/recruit/develop somewhere between 2 and 4 starters on the o-line. I hope Bugel is up to the job but it may be time to get "younger" at that position too.
