Redskins installing heated practice field

Just heard on sports talk 980 that the Redskins are installing a heated practice field at Redskins Park. They will not be building a bubble or indoor facility, but the heated field will allow the players to get proper traction so they can practice. The work will be done this off-season and be ready in time for the players to practice on before next season starts. If you want to hear click on this link and it is under 12-18-10 Chris Russell show...

I still don't understand why we don't have an indoor facility. We're one of the most valuable sports teams on earth, and when the weather gets too bad we're forced to practice at local gyms and such. Silly.

GMScud - I agree. With the amount of silly money Synder throws around on free agents why not build a indoor facility which I have heard would cost between $35-$40M and at least give your staff the option to go inside to practice or not. Also - as far as recruiting free agents I think an indoor facility could not hurt - you look at the big time college football teams and one of the things that always helps recruiting is having the best facilities. In the pros this may not matter as much but it couldn't hurt in my opinion.

Maybe I heard wrong but I think the heated fields are a short term solution while they work on a long term an for an indoor facility

Re: Redskins installing heated practice field

I guess the main issue is the indoor facility would have to be located away from Redskins Park since the practice fields are on a flood plain, can't build a bubble there.

True dat...

And after Danny Boy got crosswise with the conservation folks by cutting down those trees without a permit so he had a better view of the river, count on the fact that tree huggers will oppose him every step of the way if he seeks a variance on that rule...

A lawyer for one of the big conservation groups (a national one) lives two doors away from me. I asked her what her organization would do if they heard that the Redskins wanted a variance here. She said she figured they could tie it up in litigation and regulatory red tape for at least 5 years.

Exactly. We're the only cold weather team that doesn't have a bubble or dome of some kind to practice indoors in. It makes no sense, especially when you consider that Dan Snyder has plenty of money to build one.

Now making a heated practice field isn't the same as building a bubble or dome, but it is a step in the right direction. It's stupid that we have to go to a local gym or somewhere to practice when the weather turns nasty.

Re: Redskins installing heated practice field

while they are at it they should hook up the weight room too, thats a joke as well. it all goes back to danny boy not understanding anything about running a team, if you don't have proper practice facilities how can you be prepared for a game. when you think about guys like t williams, sackpo, dirty landry and others that came from big name colleges, that have state of the art facilities, to then come to one of the most profitable franchises in sports to work out at a washington sports club...
