Free Agent DE's

So does anyone know of any good DE's out there that will become free agents after this year is up that we might possibly try and pick up?

Re: Free Agent DE's

well dwight...... If the cap is high next year and we can some how afford him i am willing to do a lot to get him, even if that is all we get because that position is by far our biggest problem, i can pick up a TE in the draft and CB will be fine by next year as Rogers will be money by then, but shawn is getting old.

Re: Free Agent DE's

just pulled this up...whata ya think?

Mario Williams

2006 NFL Draft Prospect

from Dane Brugler

Position: Defensive End

School: North Carolina State

Status: Junior

Height: 6-7

Weight: 285

40-Yard Dash:

Positives:
A tall, quick pass rusher, Mario Williams has been a starter in Raleigh since his freshman year. He has outstanding speed and long arms to get around the offensive tackle. Williams has amazing athleticism and compares favorably to Julius Peppers, lengthy and fast. He has a quick first step and always seems to find the quarterback. Williams is durable and an NFL ready prospect.

Tamba Hali

2006 NFL Draft Prospect

from Dane Brugler

Position: Defensive End

School: Penn State

Status: Senior

Height: 6-3

Weight: 265

40-Yard Dash: 4.75 (EST)

Positives:
An experienced pass rusher, Tamba Hali might be the most polished of all defensive ends in the 2006 NFL Draft. He is a natural athlete with good size and speed to match up at the next level. Hali sprung to the top of the draft board with his phenomenal senior campaign. He is a leader and a workhorse. Hali has put up big sack numbers and was a main reason for Penn State’s success this past season

Re: Free Agent DE's

see...the thing is though...the colts arent just gonna let prolly the best d-end in the game leave. They'll def. look to either lock him up to a long term contract...or franchise him or something.

The only thing stopping them i guess is that they're prolly gonna have to make some choices...since edge will also be a free agent (he is their franchise player this year) and i think reggie wayne is also a free agent (speaking of wide receivers to compliment moss...lol...i chuckle a little at the thought...cause he would prolly be expensive...and not only that...but i am still one of the few blind optimists who thinks jacobs is gonna be good...and i guess he's got a 5 game audition left to prove he can be a viable 2nd receiver.)

Back to Freeney though...even if somehow the colts did let him get away...im really not sure what kind of cap room we would have to sign him...cause practically every team in the NFL would go after him...and we would have to sign him to a disgusting danny-sized contract...which im not sure would be good for the future of the team??

What about abraham? Are there others?

Re: Free Agent DE's

Oh...regarding those college d-ends...they both look good...but we dont have a first rounder this year...soooo...maybe get one in the 2nd round...or...i guess if we cant get one in free agency...and thats really our big need for next year...they could look to possibly trade up in the draft...though i really am not too keen on continuing to gift wrap our furture picks away. We really need to stop doing that. Maybe we get something for Ramsey if he leaves after this year...?

Re: Free Agent DE's

Abraham should be a free agent as the Jets are $30 million over next year's cap and can't afford to franchise him without stripping the roster bare. The Colts are in a similar predicament and cannot afford to keep both Mathis and Abraham. However, all three guys are going to cost a bundle.

I expect us to give a hard look to very good, but sub-Pro Bowl caliber defensive ends like the Packers' Aaron Kampman.

Re: Free Agent DE's

I would think we could package Ramsey up and possibly pry Abraham from the Jets. Those guys you posted above sound nice, but where we gonna' get the 1st round pick to sign them?

Re: Free Agent DE's

Willams is going to be a monster but he might go top 5 if not definatly top 10.

Hali is a great DE and he will make an impact as a rookie. I would love to get him. We might be able to get him with an early second rounder. I could see him falling into the second round since he just really came on as ai senior plus I think his 40 time might be a little bit slower than the 4.75 that is shown. I wouldn;t be surprised if we traded up into the first round, remember Joe has made a draft day trade every year he has been back (Cooley, Campbell)

Fortunately, the Jets are in cap hell and are currently projected to be $30 million over the cap. They can't tag Abraham without stripping their roster clean. Thus, he's going to hit free agency.

That said, I would prefer that we not sign him and go after an up-and-coming end like the Packers' Aaron Kampman. Kampman won't break the bank, but he'll break his back for the team. He is a good pass rusher and run stopper. I'd like to see him signed, a TE, and a #WR and that's about it.

I hope we don't try to trade up. I'd like to use the picks we have instead of mortgaging the future for the present.

Really? I haven't seen much of him. He won't be a Phillips Daniels will he?
