Why not let people reply to News Wire threads (just not post)?

Slashdot does that, and the articles often are a good jumping off point for discussion, but i don't think we need to start an entire second (duplicate) thread each time we feel like we need to respond to an article. The actual link would be up top, so the talk wouldn't delay or obscure it, and only an admin/mod/etc would be able to post new threads (as it is now)...

that, and joecrisp's posts should get a glowing gold aura, since he's the trusted higher authority...
