I was listening to Riggo's show on Sirrius last night and someone called asking some GM questions. Anyhow, Cerratos name came up and Riggo let loose this little gem:

"I wouldn't trust Vinny Cerrato enough to order lunch for a team no less be the GM."

I got a nice little laugh out of that.

Damb! That's actually pretty funny.

I wonder just how involved Vinny is, how much of an influence he's had on this team? You never hear about him anymore, not like we used to hear about Beatherd or Casserly.

Mr. Positivity himself at it again.

What has Riggo had to say about the Skins making the playoffs?

I'm sure he's thrilled.

Riggo is correct, VC had not done anything until Gibbs & Co. showed up. VC does the leg-work and briefs Gibbs about players then does what Gibbs tells him to do.

Vinny isn't the GM, so what's the point of cracking back on him??

Re: Riggins Quote:

Vinny has been Dannys yes man since Danny bought the team, except for the year Marty fired him. He puts together packages of free agents and restricted free agents, potential draft picks. that is pretty much it. He may get in a help negotiate a contract. He is pretty much one of those guys that just gets a job because he is friends with the boss

Re: Riggins Quote:

Vinny's just a monkey. He heads up scouting and presents it to the coaches. His recommendations mean little to the coaches. They make up their own minds.

I agree with Riggo's comment, but I don't think the Skins are trusting him to do much more than order lunch as it is. So it's a non-issue to me.

Re: Riggins Quote:

I think what happened is a caller mentioned his name as a possibility for a GM spot on their team (came in part way through the call) and they were cracking on him when that was suggested.

VC is the second most important person to the redskins behind the coaching staff. As talent evaluator his job is vital, and he's really bad at it. He needs to be shown the door.

Vinny is terrible. He's a yes man that needs to go. Kissing Danny's arse should not be your main job qualifications.

I think whether you show him the door or not, it won't make a bit of difference. All of the Skins' acquisitions since Gibbs came back (with the exception of Mike Barrow) have worked out marvelously. If Vinny's scouting reports are helping Gibbs make the right calls, I don't think you get rid of Vinny, because so far with the people we have, it is working.

You could probably just get some other monkey to come in and do the same thing Vinny is doing. He's not a very important person to the Redskins franchise, he provides the scouting reports, which lots of guys could do just fine. Gibbs and Williams are making the decisions, and they're doing fine with the info Vinny is feeding them. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

VC coordinates the entire scouting logistics during the entire year. Rather than hassle our beloved coach with having to coordinate whose going to check Jimmy Joe Bob at Butt Scratch U this weekedn he can gameplan while Vinny figures out how to best use our scouting resources and then how to assimilate the data retrieved. No he isn't the GM but I think what he does has a lot of value. I bet Gibbs would say what Vinny does is actually invaluable.
