Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?

I love moss, and I'm elated he's on our team, but steve smith is the man,the panthers other wr's sucked as bad as ours and he still couldnt be shut down, especially in the playoffs, plus he's the punt returner,so I have 4 questions
1.who would you rather have, moss or smith?
2.is smith better because delholmme is better than brunell?
3.why wont gibbs let star players return kicks? smith is considered the nfl's best rec this yr,but he's still returning kicks, other teams have their stars return kicks, gibbs didnt even have moss return punts in the playoffs even after browns fumble,i know it's because he doesnt want to risk injury, but i cannot remeber the last time i saw a kr get seriously injured
4.should moss return kicks?

Okay, I want to preface this by saying that I spent much of this season watching Steve Smith. I never liked him before. I used to hate the fact that he would celebrate all the time like he was the best WR ever. That said, having watched him this year, he totally changed my perception of him. I think that Steve Smith is the best wide receiver in the NFL.
1. Who would I rather have? Well, I think they're both great NFL receivers and since Moss is already here, I'd go Santana.

2. I don't think that Delhomme is better than Brunell because Jake Delhomme is a lot like a young Jake Plummer. When Delhomme has his A game he's a pretty good QB, but when he has off days (more than 1 or 2 a year) he is horrendous.

3. I think that Gibbs just doesn't have Santana take kicks back for exactly the reason you said, he doesn't want to risk injury to Santana.

4. I don't think that Moss should be returning punts. I think that we should get a young #3/#4 receiver to come in and do that. Or we could use a young CB if we needed to, but I just don't like the idea of having superstar players return punts.

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?

smith has better recievers on the other side and delhomme is much better than brunell.

smiths numbers are higher cause they throw like 8 screens to him every game and run at least 2-3 WR reverses a game as well. They make sure he gets the ball no matter what... gibbs didn't really do that. Moss only got stopped on one screen all season i think, the rest got him 8+ yards every time.

I think Smith is tougher (be it mentally or physically), but other than that, it's a push.

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?

I would take Santana all the way. Smith is a cocky little man (too cocky). I don't take anything away from his talent. He definately is one of the best WR playing right now. I think Moss would have had just as good a year as Smith if he was in the Panther's system. The Panther's seem to take more chances throwing to Smith even when he is covered than the Skins do throwing to Santana. I believe if we would have given Santana more chances to go up and catch it even in coverage he would have come up with the ball more times than not. Gibb's system is not built around taking chances like Fox's.

GO SKINS!!

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?

I don't know Steve Smith is ridicoulous. I live in South Georgia right now and for some reason I got to watch about 75% of the Panthers games (less than 25% of the Redskins game). Anyway what I noticed is when Jake Delhome throws to him he doesn't even try to fool the defense. Instead he turns his body directly towards Smith eyeing him the whole play, and Smith still makes the catch.

However I would like to reserve judgement on whos better than who when I see Moss with a #2 guy and maybe either a more aggresive Mark Brunell or a young and eager Campbell. And considering that Moss finished less than 100 yards behind Smith (in the regular season, unfortunatly the playoffs were a different story) I'm inclined to think that Moss might be better.

Either way very tough call

Food for thought: (If the Redskins hadn't lost to the Seahawks than we might have never landed Saunders, in turn changing the entire outlook of the 2006 season).

Kerry Colbert & Ricky "I meant to retire 3 years ago" Proel? They have nothing to do with Smith's success.

Right now Steve Smith is better primarily because of Delhomme. Smith is a little more athletic (I think Moss may be faster). No one gets the jump balls like Smith.

However, I think that Smith's style is more likely to get him hurt.

If you look at his body of work this year and consider their backfield troubles and the lack of playmakers on their team, he has been nothing short of spectacular.

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?

1. I think Moss is better because he has abilty to go after the ball instead of just getting open.

2 I think might have a lil more strenth then Brunell but Brunell is still more of a pro

The reson Gibbs will not out MOss back there is because if you remember Darell Green. got injured returning punt gibbs never did it again

and i agree

Steve Smith doesn't have the ability to go get the ball? Have you ever seen him play?

I think you are talking about Delhomme in your second point. Delhomme has been to the Super Bowl. Brunell will never take a team there.

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?

I find the fact that a receiver with 2 1000 yard season in 5 season being considered the best receiver in the NFL laughable. Neither Moss nor Smith are elite receivers just yet. Lets talk when they both do it two years in a row. Better yet, three in a row.

Who is the fastest guy in a race; the guy who holds the world record but is running 5th or the guy who is running the best race of his life and is in the lead?

The NFL has turned into a "what have you done for me lately" league, so I'd be hard pressed to say that Steve Smith and Santana Moss should not be considered elite receivers.

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?

i think the reason that he had more yards is that they have a better line and they could go for the homerun ball more often. they are pretty equal in ability, i think Moss has better hands.
