Curious Yet Obvious?

Is it any wonder that Brunell has yet to be injured since he arrived? I never even see the guy get hit hard, if our line is as bad as some say how come this hasen't happened? I really and truly never want to see someone injured, but I find it kind of funny that a QB as old as he is with a line that apparently can't pass protect, seem's to stay healthy enough to never miss a game? IIIIIIIIIRONIC!

Re: Curious Yet Obvious?

Cowboys even stated that the Skins "O" line played well.

Really!

This year Brunell is one of the least sacked if not the the leasted sacked QB.

Re: Curious Yet Obvious?

Even more ironic when you consider Brunell had rarely been trough a season without missing a game in his entire career!

What are you talking about, he's had plenty of injuries!

None major, but remember 2004? He wasn't healthy all year.

That's the problem with stats. It's all how you interpret them. Although our line has had games with decent protection, he has been chased all over the field righteously most of the season. He also unloads the ball rather than take the sack

How's Ramsey's health? Any bench related injuries this season? Any splinterectomies performed?

Re: Curious Yet Obvious?

Brunell also protects himself well. It is not a disparaging comment, but rarely does he sit in the pocket and take a big hit. If he feels pressure coming, he will roll out fairly quickly and get rid of the ball or throw it to whatever side of the hash he has rolled to.

The QBs who sit in the pocket and step up to deliver the ball, or the scramblers, are the ones who will have the serious injuries - Brunell is neither really.

Unfortunately, the QBs who wait in the pocket are also the ones who tend to deliver a lot of intermediate-to-deep passes, which Brunell also doesn't really do.

I don't think anyone has ever questioned his toughness. (Well, maybe RR, but he also wanted to see him put up 36 2nd half points) He does seem get hit around a lot in some games, and little in others, @ Dallas, @ Indy, @ NY hes been hit up pretty bad. Our line is by no means bad, just inconsistent at times.

Re: Curious Yet Obvious?

Given the way the zebras protect the QB combined with Brunell's willingness to throw the ball away I'd be surprised to see him get touched let alone hit.

Not saying he's not tough but he's very protective of himself.

Sacks are a tough stat, because you are right, although sacks kill drives it doesn't account for QB pressures, something that a lot of 'experts' feel is more important than a sack. So just reciting a sack total doesn't tell you much about a pass rush.

I'll mention one thing though. As far as defensive stats go, sacks are the most consistent from year to year which means that they are the least luck-based stat on defense. The better defenses tend to put up higher sack #'s year in and year out as other stats like INTs and FRs fluctuate from season to season.

Unless you are the Redskins, and then you never get turnovers no matter how well your defense is playing.

Well, you are absolutely correct. He does value his health out there. Most veterans do. The important thing is that WHEN he does get hit, he pops right back up.

Brett Favre. I like the fact that he stands in there until the D facemask is buried into his chest.

I'm sure other less lazy people could list a bunch of Vets that 'stand tough'.

Re: Curious Yet Obvious?

Huh? He's been banged up almost the entire time he's been here it seems.

Hammy in '04, knee in '05, elbow in '06, etc.

Not enough to keep him out of the lineup, though one could argue he was banged up to the point where he shouldn't have played against Philly late last year. Maybe if they had rested him in that game he would have been fresher for Tampa.
