Dockery Update from the Super Bowl

Money Talks

We spotted Washington Redskins Super Bowl quarterback Doug Williams and former Redskins tight end Doc Walker talking to current Redskins lineman Derrick Dockery. Dockery, a potential free agent in another month, said he is having a blast here and contract negotiations with the team are progressing. "They're working on it," he said with a smile befitting a man about to become quite rich. . . . Two already mega-rich Redskins, wide receiver Santana Moss and tailback Clinton Portis -- both Florida natives and University of Miami products -- have their names attached to several parties this weekend.

Re: Dockery Update from the Super Bowl

I would be happy if they kept Dock. It would throw the fans a curveball. They make a reasonable restructure with Jansen and then resign someone that they drafted? Is "White Shirt" Vinny throwing his weight around while the short man is out of the country?

Jesus, they may even trade down or sign a lineman with that 6th pick. If they do that, I hope the NFL doesn't drug test our front office.

This certainly is an improvement over "there not even close," but it's also far from hearing that he's actually going to sign.
I'm encouraged though, thanks for posting this. Hopefully Gibbs has gotten it across to Vinny & Danny that if he's going to preach the "core" skin mantra, then we have to actually sign some of our core guys!!

Your last sentence is absolutely critical in my opinion. The team, with the Friend article, has shown that they're beginning to notice the team's propensity to pay outside players a boatload, while getting stingy with in-house players. If the team fails to regain the faith of these players by putting their money where their mouth is, the phrase "core Redskin" is going to fall on even more deaf ears. The team needs to show it values guys like Jansen and Dockery, or I'm afraid we'll head into 2007 with a discontented roster.

I think they'll get it done with Dock. Jansen's deal helps clear space to fit Dock in. It would also send good messages to the team if the front office was able to resign Cooley sometime before the end of the 2007 season, as well.

Cooley, and hopefully Taylor steps up and then work on him too.

If you let Dockery go into FA I can ga-run-tee the Cowboys make a big run at him.

The O-line needs inside help. We have a center, and one and a half tackles. Our Guard play was inconsistent - particularly Rivera.

Now you have a young Guard who might become a free agent, you have seen quite a bit of this guy, he is from Texas, was a Longhorn, and made Ladell Betts look like Clinton Portis.

I have also seen his name mentioned a few times by so called insider cowboy blogs.

It seems to make sense to me...

You should have kept Larry Allen! It is not a coincidence that Gore led the NFC.

I have a pretty good feeling that Dock will be in burgandy and gold next year.

J. LaConfora's Redskins Insider on the wash post. He's said a couple of times since the season ended that the 2 sides were not even close.
Based on the info he usually gets (not to be confused w/his speculation), I'd trust it.
I couldn't open this link, was it from JLC's insider?
I hope Jansen's deal is a sign of things to come (& Betts' deal).

JLC also said Jansen's situation could get "sticky", a week later he signs a new deal.
