Redskins Insider: Cap Stuff/Cooley Stuff/JC Stuff/Random Stuff
Redskins Insider
According to people with access to this info, the Skins are currently $7 million under the cap, which is ample room to add a depth player should injuries arise, and also to account for any jump in Cooley's cap number should that get done soon (more on that in a paragraph or two). Also, Skins have $2.1 million left under the rookie cap, which, given the low base salaries these guys make, is plenty of space for LaRon Landry. Those talks are ongoing. As for Cooley, been sniffing around on that for a few days now and it seems highly unlikely that gets done before the start of camp. Still hashing a lot of stuff out. The Skins really want to make this one happen and I know Chris is looking to be compensated as one of the top tight ends in the game. They've been working at this for a while now, and these things can get pretty complicated. Nothing imminent for now and I imagine they will keep talking through training camp and the regular season if necessary. Some people have emailed me about Aaron Brooks working out here a while back, according to some reports. Haven't been able to confirm that but I do know there is no real interest in QBs now and things are pretty set. Not saying that it didn't happen, but if it did nothing came of it and no one has been talking about him out here. JC is the starter and Brunell is far and away the favorite to be No. 2 and some people close to Todd Collins said the veteran is under no illusions that he will definitely be here this season. If Brooks did workout here, several people at The Park said it must have happened while they were on vacation, 'cause it's the first they heard of it (the only two players I know did indeed workout here over the past month or so are WR Keenan McCardell and LB Dhani Jones, who signed with the Saints recently). Spent some time with JC today. The passing camp he was hoping to have with the WRs in Miami or Atlanta or Arizona or wherever .. well, it never materialized. Guys were spread out and Santana Moss was still nursing some injuries and couldn't run normally, so it never came together. A bunch of guys have been working out at The Park the past few weeks, though, and today Campbell was throwing to Moss and Antwaan Randle El. He said their timing was pretty impressive and they'll continue doing the sessions right up til camp starts Friday. Also, Santana echoed JC's remarks about their informal throwing sessions and said he feels great, and the hamstring and groin stuff is not bothering him at all. |

Also, I think its extremely important that Landry is in camp from day one. You always hear how rookies say the speed of practice is way faster than what they are used to. IMO he needs to be there to see what its like from the start so he can be prepared as much as possible when the coaches call his number. |

Perhaps just an oversight on his part regarding Lloyd?
But at the same time I wouldn't at all be surprised if he hasn't worked out with JC and the other WRs. |

Supposedly Lloyd has been a model citizen this off season and been at the park a ton. Somehow I doubt he spent his entire summer working out and pushing hard just to slack off at the end and not be there when they were working on tiing and such with the starting QB. Probably just an oversight. At worst he just took some time off after working with JC earlier in the off season.

Because character-wise, Lloyd is a total piece of sh*t. I'm telling you, the guy is going to give us major problems this year. He's going to pout when he doesn't get his way.

I dont think that will happen. Gibbs won't let it happen like it did last year. If it does I think Gibbs will play the 'conduct detrimental to the team' card and suspend his ass.

That to me would be the very definition of "a problem."

I just don't think Gibbs will let one player affect the rest of the team. Lloyd had some issues last season but if anyone can keep a player like him in check, it is Gibbs.
And why is it always the recievers that are head cases? Keyshawn, T.O., Lloyd. I'm sure somebody could name some more. |

Yes but if you have signed all your rookies then left over cap space can be used for other things... It Rookie Pool is just a mechanism to prevent the salary demands of teams draft picks to rocket out of control

Does anyone know the likelihood that Laundry signs and is in camp on day one? Also, does anyone know what the plan is for preseason games as far as playing the starters? I'd hate to see what happen last year to portis happen again to a key player.

Where does all this stem from? Is it just because we're disappointed in his performance? He has been a major let-down, no question, but I haven't witnessed anything to question his character. |

j/k dude! On the play of starters, I've heard nothing. Usually in PS game 1,the starters play a quarter or a half, then the back-ups come in. In games 2 & 3, that time might decrease, maybe only a series or two. Then in the 4th game, the starters might play 3/4 or at least a series of the 4th quarter.

But we will see. Hopefully Lloyd keeps his nose clean.
