Re: SI: NFL 2007 Preview
Apart from the concluding line, it is actually a fairly flattering description of our new acquisitions and Jason Campbell. It almost seems to not match up with the record. I wouldn't be surprised if Ben Reiter, the SI journalist who covered the Skins had zero to do with the record projection.

Re: SI: NFL 2007 Preview
It said that Dr. Z made the record projections. So yeah, big disconnect between the writeups and the projections.
But seriously, in the NFL these days, anything can happen. This prediction is just as likely to be right as someone who says we'll go 10-6. Hell, the Raiders under Culpepper could make the playoffs. You just never know. I like our chances myself, I think we're going to have scratch and claw early on to win games by scores of like 10-9 or 7-6. The D is going to be nasty, but I think the offensive line is going to take time to come together. I see a repeat of 2005, where the defense helps us tread water, and then in November and December the offense comes together and we reel off a big winning streak.

No, you're absolutely right about the Giants. All things being equal, they probably could very well end up being last in the division. However, they are the type of team if they get hot, they get on a streak and end up in the playoffs.

I agree about the Giants. Along with the K.C. Chiefs, they seem like they are long overdue to implode.
You can bet though, that the G-strings will be able to pick us off at least once. No matter how bad they are, seems like we're never able to sweep 'em. |

Re: SI: NFL 2007 Preview
Yeah it doesn't look real good for the Giants. If you're handicapping it, I think you have to figure they're the most likely of the 4 teams to finish in the basement.
Once again though, it's a "you never know" kind of league. What if Eli finally grows a pair and starts playing like his brother? Brees had a sudden awakening a few years ago, and look how things went for the Chargers that year. But luckily for us, I think Campbell is more likely to pull one of those than Eli is.

Re: SI: NFL 2007 Preview
Let's also remember that Eli had a running game to play off of with Barber. He won't have that this year, so they'll be doing an awful lot of passing.

I did make sure to grab Plaxico in both my fantasy leagues this year, though. You're right, they are going to throw. It should mean plenty of stats for Plaxico, but also lots of sacks and INTs for Eli.

Re: SI: NFL 2007 Preview
Truthfully I can see that Steve Smith being a baller, but beyond him and Plax (who is having his share of injury problems this year) I can't see a lot of offense out of them. Shockey's best years are truly behind him.

I would love to see the Giants implode. It would make me so happy.
I would also love to see Eli become the first QB in recent memory to shed tears during a game after an interception. |

Re: SI: NFL 2007 Preview
In the window that discusses Randle El.... I can't agree with their analysis of Antwaan's deep threat ability. First, he is another example of how we overpay for talent. I am normally a big supporter of utilizing Danny Boyz' deep pockets. But he really disappointed me.
Is Antwaan a deep threat? He is exceptional at turning nothing into something. IE: Screens, quick outs-ins. Things that get the ball in his hands, allowing him to stretch those short plays into longer ones. Brandon and Santana are our deep threats. Randle El doesnt have the permanent sticky on his hands that Santana, Cooley, and Lloyd have. Not that he cant catch the ball, but he doesnt necessarily go up and get it. Which is a characteristic of a succesfull deep threat receiver. Anyone else reading him the same way? |

Re: SI: NFL 2007 Preview
I'm confused. Are you saying he is or isn't our deep threat receiver? If not, I think the signing is fine. We're using him as he was intended to be used. Great return man and good short-yardage guy.
