Rooney Rule Prospects

Nobody has really talked about this in depth so... Who do you think the Redskins might interview in favor of this rule? So far I think I've heard mention around here for Dennis Green and Mike Singletary.

Re: Rooney Rule Prospects

I keep hearing Singletary as a HC candidate for the various jobs but is he qualified? Obviously, the man is a hall of fame player but other than being a linebackers' coach, waht experience does he have? You'd think it would still be too soon to hand him the reigns. But conversely, I think people said the same thing about Jack Del Rio.

Re: Rooney Rule Prospects

They can just "interview" Byner, Blache, Hixon, Gray, or Stephen Jackson and call it a day.

Or they can call me. I'm two minorities!

He's more than qualified, players respect him and he's a great coach and motivator. 2 names Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis, after Singletary left Baltimore so did Ray Lewis play (maybe age also had something to do with it) and who's all-pro this year and a rookie? Willis.

Re: Rooney Rule Prospects

Rooney Rule prospects? Can we just can them minorities lol? I understand you are not trying to be politically correct but to me the title just looks silly,
as a minority.

As for SS, half Indian and half Hispanic(I want to say Cuban?).

I'm a minority but I dunno. I didn't think of it as minorities. Like I said in the Tiger Woods thread, I have a hard time thinking of things in terms of race. To me they're just prospects under the Rooney Rule, not, "Black dudes, getting interviewed".

I hear you. I really don't see colors. The only reason I know I'm white is that the country club I belong to wouldn't have let me in otherwise.

Clearly, this is a joke. Let's see who's panties get twisted.

Re: Rooney Rule Prospects

As a minority, I have to say the rooney rule is a joke. I dont think race has anything to do with uneven footing for interviewing for a HC position. Especially not so in a league where minorities are the majority in terms of players. Owners already know who they are going to pick regardless of who they are required to interview and often times only pay lip service to the rooney rule anyway. If an owner realizes that a black man can motivate his players (the majority of whom are black) he will try to find a qualified black candidate. He doesn't need an artificial formula (of how many minority candidates to interview) dictating how he conducts his search. Now that Dungy has won the superbowl and other black coaches have had success/shown their abilities as HC's, the football community will naturally look to them when there are coaching vacancies. It should be whoever is best for the job PERIOD b/c everyone has an equal opportunity for success (at least when it comes to football).

Re: Rooney Rule Prospects

Rooney Rule doesn't force you to hire a minority but it does plugs holes in the system where if you were a minority you were a career assistant and you were lucky to make coordinator.

In any case, evaluating all options is a good thing so interview away...just don't let GW get away if you really want him.

Re: Rooney Rule Prospects

Chances are Tomlin wouldn't have been even interviewed by the Steelers if it weren't for this rule. Just saying.
