New Redskins OC Hue Jackson?
Bengals: Don't look for Hue here
Interesting. I thought he did a pretty good job calling plays (for a couple of games) back in 2002. But this could be a bigger change (Saunders out, Jackson in) than a new head coach

Interesting indeed. It's a blog but is from a good source. I hope it doesn't turn out that way. Maybe Snyder contacted him just in case a move is made to get rid of AS.

Wolverine?
Seriously though, it really seems like Saunders is as good as gone, That sucks because the offense was finally clicking at the end of the season when we had a guy who really knew it playing QB. I feel like Campbell could have a break through year given the chance, but looks like it's not meant to be.

Re: New Redskins OC Hue Jackson?
Losing Saunders would certainly be a major detriment to our team next year. We'd have the dreaded adjustment season to a new system. But you have to wonder, if we keep Saunders and we resign Collins, will he play Todd? If he does, that would certainly not be good for Jason Campbell's development.
Gregg Williams has met four different times now with Dan Snyder, so it seems all but a lock that he will be our new head coach. Perhaps in his meetings with Snyder, and I'll bet a lot of money this is the case, Williams has expressed a desire to continue developing Campbell. Williams seems interested in cultivating the team through the draft, getting younger and faster at a lot of positions. This mindset lends itself to developing Campbell along with the rest of the young players on the team. I'm going to guess that Gregg isn't in favor of letting Collins start for a season. As much as we'd miss Saunders in 2008, it's probably better for the Skins in the long run if Campbell played. Of course we could keep Saunders and just have Gregg force Campbell on him no matter what. caveat: I recognize there is tons of speculation within this post.

Re: New Redskins OC Hue Jackson?
Jackson showed some promise in his brief stint here in Washington, especially when one considers the talent he was working with. That said, I'd prefer to keep Saunders. JC is about to go through the crucible - next season may make or break his career. So, I think it's best to keep Saunders and see what JC can do.

At this point I really think it's unlikely that Saunders will be back. Just my take.

I gotta admit, this is the first and only place I've heard about Hue Jackson. I'm sorta stunned. But this guy is a good source.
If I remember right, he was the first one last year to break Adalius Thomas to the Patriots.

Re: New Redskins OC Hue Jackson?
Well, I don't agree that replacing Saunders means stability is completely out the window. A lot would depend on what sort of new offense is brought in. Who knows, it just might be one that suits Campbell better.

Re: New Redskins OC Hue Jackson?
True, maybe Campbell just isn't meant for the Saunders offense. It is a shame though if Saunders leaves, because the whole team seemed to be making progress offensively.
But the good thing is that the Jackson offense isn't more complex than Saunders'. And it may, in fact, be similar; but scaled down.

Didn't Campbell have his best year in College when he was in the West Coast offense?

Re: New Redskins OC Hue Jackson?
Throw stability out the window if you want. I still want to see Saunders get one more year, but this time with a healthy starting O-line, a top flight receiver who's not dropping multiple passes every other game, and the absolute freedom to call whatever play he wants.
I don't think the guy completely lost all his marbles from the time he was in K.C. putting up huge numbers. |

Re: New Redskins OC Hue Jackson?
It's certainly possible that JC could do better in a less complex offense. Perhaps JC is having a hard time committing to memory Saunders' infamous 700 page playbook. However, without getting inside JC's brain, one would have to think that, at least in the short term, his development may be stunted by changing coordinators.
I also agree with Beems' sentiment that it would probably be good to give Saunders' offense another year to show what it can do. After seeing how well it performed when TC started playing, I think it would be wrong to not give it another chance. It's not like Saunders is running an unproven system. |
