This puts our kicker into perspective

"Suisham was outstanding in his first full NFL season. His 29 field goals were the most by a Redskin in 15 years and his 29-for-35 accuracy was second in Washington history to Mark Moseley's 1982 NFL MVP season. Suisham was an uncanny eight-for-eight in windy Giants Stadium."

Nice recognition for Suisham.

He had a good year. Give it up for him.

Didn't quite realize how bad Randel El was on punt returns. He didn't look explosive, but those numbers are pitiful.

Suisham has to, I repeat HAS TO, start making the routine kicks, well, routine. His uncanny ability to nail the tough ones, while missing the chip shots is maddening.

Can anyone compile his misses and see on average what distance they are?

ARE fair caught a lot of balls. I think teams were giving him the Hester treatment.

Re: This puts our kicker into perspective

I have to give Suisham some love. I criticized him early in the year and said he would lose us a game at some point by missing 40+ yard field goal. While there was a game or two that one of his missed FG could have drastically changed the final moments of a game, no game was directly lost on one of his FG misses. So I was wrong. When I criticized him, however, I also said that he was the best kicker we have had for a while, that he was young, and that even if he cost us a game or two this year, he was still worth keeping around. So, in all, he exceeded at least my expectations for this year, and he deserves alot of credit. Heres to a consistent kicker that could possibly be here for quite awhile.

I do wish his kickoffs were a bit deeper though . . . . can a kicker improve their distance at this level, or is what you see what you get at this point? Id like to think that being young he may still have room for improvement, but I guess only time will tell.

I also think our punt teams were not anywhere near as good as our kick teams. ARE never seemed to have a clear catch and run opportunity. He was always catching the ball and avoiding immediate tacklers. I can't think of a time when he just caught and ran a little and got tackled when he should have gotten more. I am sure it happened but not a lot.

While we are on the subject of special teams...lets recognize our punter Derrick Frost. A great year for him. He was one of the best punters this season. Had a 41 yards per punt average...not bad. GO DERRICK FROST!

Not bad? He was ranked 28th. If anything he was not good.

Re: This puts our kicker into perspective

People who criticize Suisham need to remember how bad our kicking situation has been for about 15 years. Well he's not as good as the best in the league he is clearly solidly in the second tier and improving.

Suisham did pretty good. Ranked 13th, near the top of the middle of the pack. He got us something like 115 points. Not bad.

Actually he was 10/10 from inside the 30 this year. He was 8-10 from 30-39 which well not amazing is not exactly terrible either - pretty middle of the pack. It was outside the 40 where he struggled a little more, making 11-15, including 1-2 from 50 plus.

So I don't think those numbers suggest a guy whose problem is making routine kicks.

Exactly.

The people that want him gone are smoking crack IMO.
