Mr. Humble Green
okay so my boss came back today from superbowl. He went on ranting and raving about all the people he met from kid rock, joe montana, boomer, Bradshaw etc. But the person whom he said made the best impression on him was Darrell Green. He went on to say Darrell was the most humble guy he has ever met. Also that Darrell went on to say "I feel blessed to play for such a great organization, and they paid me more then enough from which they should've"..Darrell talked with my boss and his friend all night about old skin stories...We need more players like that, rather then cocky ones like mrs. Brady

Monk is a great guy... I have meet/seen DG many times. He is amazing. He has a great smile when they turn on the cameras... but the second they switch off, his entire demeanor changes.

Re: Mr. Humble Green
I've always heard that DGreen can be kind of a pain behind the scenes. I don't like listening to him talk. He always seems a bit over the top to me.

Re: Mr. Humble Green
Don't get me wrong I love DG and what he means to the Redskins, but his humility seems a bit forced to me but maybe that's just how he is.

Re: Mr. Humble Green
I've always thought alot of the way D Green handles himself and what he does for the community. I've never heard him utter anything that would be construed as selfish or rude.
I was a little shocked to hear him on the radio this week talking about himself. It seemed a little like bragging. I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it, but I've listened to him speak for a long time and had never seen him come accross like that. I really don't no what to think. Did anyone else notice this? |

Re: Mr. Humble Green
D. Green was awesome, simply awesome on the field and I will always be grateful for the great memories he brought me and my fellow Redskins fans on the field.
But as a person, as I've mentioned ad nauseum here, he left me less than impressed over the many times we worked with each other. He seems to have a constant chip on his shoulder and a need for constant validation. Now maybe that's the kind of mentality he had to have to make it from a 5 foot nothing high school walk on to NFL Hall of Famer, but it's very off putting nonetheless.

Re: Mr. Humble Green
wow i get what your saying but i find that funny. Its kind of like calling that girl at work cute and she talks crap about herself not being able to take a compliment. Maybe just maybe he is that sincere.

Re: Mr. Humble Green
Speaking of Darrell, I've got a question that may have already been answered, but I'll ask again just in case. According to his website, he was the 1996 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and ESPN also listed this among his accomplishments when they were covering the HOF. My question is, according to whom? Most sources show that Bruce Smith won the award. I'm just a little confused.

Maybe that's what it is with Darrell......He has a little man's complex. I always admired his ability on the field, but never thought he did a very good job when it came to expressing himself. We always went to Carlsle Pa. when training camp was there, and I recall the first year he was there with the team and I sought his autograph, it turned out to be quite an ordeal. He is the epitimy of a company man. |
