Frightening Thought...
Forgive me if this is old news, but on ESPN Radio today, on the 'Herd Show', Colin interviewed a writer who covers the San Diego Chargers. He was talking about LaDanian Tomlinson. Apparently, the running back, many believe would be considered the best in the NFL if it weren't for the team he plays for, said that he can't wait to get out of San Diego and will seek to be a Dallas Cowboy once his contract runs out.
Tomlinson said this around week 10 of last year, so again, if it's already been covered, sorry. I just don't remember hearing anything about it. Certainly, it's nothing to worry about right now. But I'd sure hate to have to face him twice a year wearing Cowboy blue. That would really suck. |

I do know that LT idolizes Emmit Smith and that playing with the hated Star on his helmet would make him a happy running back. Let's hope Marty trades him before he becomes a free agent.

I remember Corey Dillon saying that last year, but didn't know that about LT. LT is awesome, I think some people dismissed him early on because they thought "the Chargers gave up a chance to draft Mike Vick for this??"
Cowboyhater, good to have you aboard but what's up with you taking my sig?! It's all good, maybe it's time for me to come up with a new one anyway

Hey, that would definitely be pretty frightening. He could add an arsenal of weapons to what ever team he plays on. He can run, he can catch, and he is mega-talented. However, I don't imagine that the Chargers would just set him free to do as he pleases. They will probably slap him with the franchise flag and either try to get him to sign a long-term contract (unlikely, unless they somehow start winning) or trade him. Then it would just be a matter of who gives the most to get LT; hopefully it won't be the 'girls.

If I had to take one back to build a team around, it would be Tomlinson.
He's wasting away in San Diego. |

Do you all think that Phillip Rivers will bring anything to the team? He is definitely a winner as has been evidenced by his football career all throughout high school and college, but does he really have any chance of making plays in sluggish San Diego offense. I could see LT allowing Rivers to shine as much as is possible over there (which of course may not be enough).

Some say that Brees could have been the guy if he had any O-line help. Phillip Rivers won't be able to do anything that Brees or Flutie couldn't do with the linemen he has protecting him. |

Brees seems pretty limited physically, not much of an arm and below average size. The Chargers have obviously soured on him anyway with the Rivers selection, they also tried shopping him around.
I agree it all starts up front for the Chargers. Imagine what LT could do with a decent line. |

For the o-line, sometimes I think that it is mostly in the coaching. For example, look at what Joe Bugel did with the Hogs. We had a bunch of people that no one had ever heard of and made them into stars. A guy like Robert Gallery will no doubt bring a great deal to any offensive line, but I think that the line coach can really make a lot out of not too much. In Denver, Alex Gibbs is like a modern day Bugel. He had players who wouldn't have been successful in most systems, but he caterered to their strengths and made them into beasts.
Bottomline: get the right coach in there, then get the right players and the o-line will treat the d-line like this ![]()

I know the chargers organization hasn't made some smart moves but there is no way in hell that if LT is still healthy when his contract expires and he still wishes to leave, that the chargers wouldn't use the franchise tag on him cuz right now he's all they really have to sell their team to their fans.

and LT isnt a top 16 player, he's a top 3... so using the franchise tag isn't going to bother them.

Yea I heard the rumors as well, but for Corey Dillon, not LT. He did play in college down there though, so its possible hes a Cowboys fan. I hope he never plays for them though...

good thing we don't have to worry about this scenario anymore. I know that for each and every player changing or staying with a team atleast has something to do with the money they make but I love how he says he doesn't want to leave a team just cuz it's down on its luck cuz that's "what loser's do" and he wants to be one of the guys involved in helping to turn his franchise around. and honestly believe he deserves to be paid more than portis cuz he's the best rb in the league right now. he just doesn't get the publicity and hype his achievements deserve. |
