I really like DJ Wolfe b/c he played both corner and safety like his teammate Reggie Smith. And he used to be running back behind Adrian Peterson so he's still learning to play DB. We could use someone who could back up both spots.

Both safeties from Oklahoma got smoked by speed when they played WVU in theyre bowl game.

how bout a tackling machine,in hard hitting Eric Wicks from WVU who will be very late round pick.As a backup safety,whomever it may be,will only come in on running plays,and play special teams.So,why spend a 3rd or 5th when it could be used on the offense and defensive line.He may not even be drafted,but the defensive scheme at WVU is the cause of that..

I would probably pick marcus griffin if he was still around in the fifth round because he made some pretty nice plays in Texas. I dunno about another guy named Jamal Lewis. And the little that I was of DJ Wolfe I liked, he wasnt too bad in coverage.

Pass on Silva. He has great ball skills but is way too slow. He may have to become a LB in the NFL think he ran like a 4.7

Reed Doughty ran a 4.69 so whats the difference between the two other than Silva having ball skills, which means that Silva would be better than Reed Doughty because Reed Doughty has been watching Butter Finger Rodgers for the last two years.

He's not much of a playmaker though. It would be so much more useful to have someone making plays on the ball across from Laron Landry, who's also quick so they don't get burned on deep balls.

then we should get someone before the 6th round of the draft. the 1-3rd round will have some decent starting safeties. after that, there really isn't a lot there, and no one on this list is going to blow doughty away by any means.

If Marcus Griffin is given a chance he will become a good safety in the NFL, just as Reed Doughty was given the oppurtunity.

Doughty was a late round pick. You can't really expect him to jump right in and be a playmaker. With that said, with his experience from last year and his tackling abilities he could be a very solid player this year. I'd expect the safety position to be above average with the guys we have. Same with LB's, same with CB's. We need to work on our d-line being above average.

I love the idea of Steltz if he is around in round 5.. (posssible but not too likely imo) teammate of Laron is everywhere on the feild and could push Reed for playing time, but the last sentence sold me on him if he is still around in the 5th

2008 NFL Draft Prospect - Scouting Report
Steltz didn't completely come out of nowhere in 2007. He totaled 42 tackles and four interceptions in a part-time role for the Tigers in 2006. But few could have predicted the breakout performance Steltz delivered in 2007. He had 101 tackles, which tied him with Ali Highsmith for team-high honors. He also had six interceptions, seven pass breakups and three forced fumbles. He was simply everywhere on the field for the national champions and the performance didn't go unnoticed. He was voted first-team All-American by The Associated Press.

Steltz capitalizes on having great instincts. He reads the play quickly and is always flowing toward the football. His awareness in coverage led to his interception total. He is equally adept providing run support. He's aggressive and rarely misses a tackle. His size and physical style make him a force against the run and his motor never stops.

The biggest knocks on Steltz are that he isn't a great athlete -- though some scouts believe that's being overblown -- and that he doesn't have ideal speed. He runs a 4.59 in the 40-yard dash. He also doesn't have much quickness or a burst to recover. He will struggle in man coverage, which makes him a little one-dimensional. The perception surrounding his skills is going to hurt him in the draft, with some NFL people believing he'll never be more than a backup. But it's more likely he'll develop into a consistent starter. At worst, he will be a solid backup and a beast on special teams. He'll likely be drafted in the middle rounds.
