Suggestion for our awesome moderators...
Why not let people reply to News Wire threads (just not post)?
Slashdot does that, and the articles often are a good jumping off point for discussion, but i don't think we need to start an entire second (duplicate) thread each time we feel like we need to respond to an article. The actual link would be up top, so the talk wouldn't delay or obscure it, and only an admin/mod/etc would be able to post new threads (as it is now)... that, and joecrisp's posts should get a glowing gold aura, since he's the trusted higher authority...

Anyone can post in the News Wire section. Have you been having problem with that That Guy?
As for the other suggestion, we moderators are currently working on several possible addendums to the board-some (or none) which we wil implement shortly.

Well, I don't know... I kinda like the glowing gold aura idea!
It's up to Matt and the other mods, but I've always liked the fact that the News forum stays clean and the news links stand alone. It allows every news story to remain in the chronological sequence in which it was posted. If you allow replies to news topics, then the more actively discussed news topics will constantly be pushed to the top of the forum index-- maybe it should be that way, I don't know. But I like the fact that the latest headlines are always at the top of the index. Just my personal opinion, and no--- it needn't be accompanied by a glowing gold aura.

I think we're on the same page Crisp.
JC didn't mention that one of the changes we're working on is a halo above his avatar and a sound file of angels playing harps every time he posts. Crisp is just too modest to mention all that.

I prefer the news wire to stay "clean" as well. It makes it real easy to stay on top of the news, and I think it makes this site a good resource on the web: all the skins news, no fuss no muss. On Extreme skins, the stories get blended into the posts, and I always have trouble tracking things down. That, and the wild avatar action, make it harder to follow what's going on there. (Though I have no problem with the glowing aura for Crisp! He kinda already has one in that photo. Is that angels, or just the flash blub?
)

I like the idea of being able to expand on the news stories. Like that_guy said, its a good springboard into conversations.
Check out http://dslreports.com for an excellent example.
