FoxSports: NFL offseason winners, losers and awards

Biggest Losers
Washington: Jason Campbell should feel unloved. The Redskins tried replacing him through an unsuccessful trade attempt for Jay Cutler. Washington, though, shouldn't be blamed for trying. Campbell is clearly the fourth-best quarterback in the division and failed to make many big plays in the second half of the 2008 season as the Redskins faded after a 6-2 start. Washington should be better defensively with the addition of free-agent defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, but the Redskins still lack a proven pass rusher. The Redskins hope rookie Brian Orakpo can make a quick impact, but that's asking a lot from their 2009 first-round draft choice.
Quote:
WORST RE-SIGNING: Washington giving cornerback DeAngelo Hall a six-year, $55 million contract with $23 million in guaranteed money.

Yes, the same DeAngelo Hall who was such a washout in Oakland last season that he was cut after eight games even though the Raiders had signed him to their own massive contract. Hall is a good player but not that good.

What do you guys think of the Skins hate in this article?

I actually disagree with the notion that that Skins were one of the three biggest losers this offseason. The Skins got a top five defensive player in the league in Albert Haynesworth. They also signed Derrick Dockery to help boost their offensive line. The Skins re-signed DeAngelo Hall to a large contract and probably overpaid but he played well for the Skins after coming from Oakland.

In the draft we got maybe the best defensive player in the draft in Orakpo at pick 13. I dont understand the article when it knocks our pass rush when we tried to improve it for the first time in the draft since 1997. I think with Haynesworth on the line and Orakpos talent level Orakpo should have a very solid 2009.

The Skins upgraded their offensive line with the signing of Dockery and some solid moves signing Mike Williams and Jeremy Bridges. They also upgraded a defense that had trouble getting turnovers with the additions of Haynesworth and Orakpo. I dont think the Skins failing to trade Campbell twice outweighs the positives of maybe the best offseason in DC since Gibbs cameback in 2004.

As for Hall being the worst re-signing of any player this offseason I dont have a problem with that as much. The Skins did overpay and have taken a gamble on Hall. If Hall continues his solid play in DC and builds on it then it was a nice signing. If Hall falls flat on his face it may be the worst FA signing ever. I actually think Hall will have a shot at the Pro Bowl with all of the INT chances he might get with the new additions on defense.

One other thing I noticed in the article was the Browns listed as having the worst draft The Browns had one of the best drafts this year imo. Knocking the Browns draft made no sense to me. The draft picks of Alex Mack (who was the top rated interior lineman prospect), Brian Robiskie (who has the best hands and route running out of any WR in the draft), and Mohamed Massaquoi (who was very underrated at Georgia) were all very nice.

It's asking a lot of the 13th overall pick to impact our pass rush?

thats total crap. so the skins tried to upgrade the qb position and were unable to do so. it's not like campbell is garbage.

The author definitely understated the compounding effect Haynesworth will have on the rest of the line.

You don't have to be very good to get 8 sacks playing next to Albert Haynesworth. He'll impact the pass rush more than Orakpo will. If Orakpo brings just Andre Carter type skills, he'll get home 10+ times.

Agreed. I think Orakpo at the very least will have 8 sacks this year. If he plays to his talent level as a rookie he can hit double digit sacks and become DROY.

This article is ridiculous. We had a good offseason, but all of the signings don't mean anything until we play on the field.

Way too many people are caught up in all these offseason power polls, winners and losers, etc etc.

Who gives a rat's ass what Fox thinks of us on June 1st? I know we're desperate for NFL stuff to talk about, but it's a lot of wasted energy to get frustrated over this kind of crap.

I dont think people like myself are caught up in offseason rankings. I think its a great way to kill the dead time on this board til the start of training camp/preseason. I like the rankings more for the different discussions that can be had about the Redskins and other teams on this board during the next couple months.

I honestly dont care what Fox or any source thinks per say. I think its a time killer to talk about different teams and how they stack up for this upcoming season or how certain moves in the offseason will work out in different posters opinions.

Campbell will remain the worst QB in the division...until Eli's first pick on September 10th. After that, I predict not one voice will refer to Campbell as the worst QB in the NFC Beast ever again the rest of his career.

That's exactly how I think about it. It's ridiculous to read this when you know most of the writers hate the us. Who gives a damn! Once the season starts then we can determine who had the best offseason, but right now you can't. What if (God forbid)Haynesworth got hurt the first snap of training camp and was out for the year? All of the offseason magizine poll stuff wouldn't mean crap. Too many people think football is played on paper, Internet, etc.

Ahhh, You gotta love the media. They never give up an opportunity to shit on The Redskins... In the last 10-15 years it seems to be a knee-jerk reaction for the media to be negative about ANY news on The Redskins. Even more so since Danny bought the team. Its almost to the degree of lazy journalism that most reports come out in a negative light. Although, I realize that The Skins have had little to celebrate since winning our last Superbowl, I would argue that OVERALL The Redskins have had better seasons than the cowpukes, who HAVE NOT won a playoff game SINCE 1996! (won SB) Yet, The media perpetually covers the cowroids as a contender, and The Skins as a pretender.... I guess it's something as a Redskins fan I have to except, But I do remember the days when we were respected, and can't wait to see these talking heads eat a big ole' bowl of crow.

So Campbell has something to prove in a contract year, thats a bad thing??? That rational makes no sense. Other than overpaying Hall we had a tremendous offseason. Whats with this incessant view that Redskins are the only team ever to consider a quarterback upgrade.

We will see how it all turns out once the season starts and how it wears on.
