Cowboy's new stadium
They said during the game last night that funding was approved and it would be ready in 2009. reports i was hearing were saying that it was going to be something crazy like 110,000 seats. passing fed-ex as largest stadium. do you think snyder would get in to a try to best them.extra seats etc..

The stadium in Dallas will have a retractable roof and that will put Dallas into the "Super Bowl Hosting Rotation". The size of the field is not the issue to Danny Boy; he wants a Super Bowl to host so he can be the person who gets to show everyone how wonderful his playpen is.
If he goes to his hip to try to out-do the new Texas stadium, it will be to build a facility that can host a Super Bowl

There is no more room left in FedEx for extra seats. If he wants more seats, he's gonna have to start from scratch, which isn't feasible considering FedEx is < 10 years old.

Isn't that enough for a while? Jeez |

I prefer the atmosphere at smaller stadiums for NFL games. the redskins have a college sized stadium....the problem is, they don't have 25,000 people living on campus to roll out of bed drunk and go to the game.
I never went to RFK for a skins game, but I heard it was a much superior atmosphere. |

RFK held 55-60k, fedex can hold 95k i believe... the big problem is there's not enough pavement to keep the traffic flowing as well as many fans would like...

Would Danny Boy want to outdo another owner? Of course he would. That's why he owns this team in the first place.
Question is if he is willing to put up with the cost and the grief to try to outdo the other owner. SUPPOSE that Jerry Jones really and truly builds a stadium with a retractable roof that seats 105,000 to 110,000 people and gets on the rotation to get a Super Bowl in Dallas every 6 or 7 years. I'm not convinced that is gonna happen, but SUPPOSE it does. Now what can Danny Boy do? Would any of the govermental units around here agree to put up the money for a stadium for him? I don't think so. Would he be willing to dip into his own pocket to build a new playpen on his own nickel as JKC did? Maybe - but that remains to be seen. Do you recall that it took JKC about 5-8 years to get a jurisdiction to agree to let him build a stadium in their area when he was going to pay the freight for the construction? So, if Danny Boy wants to move in that direction, he might be well advised to start planning now. If he starts tomorrow, hi may have a site for the building approved in about 2012 meaning it might be finished by 2014. And by then FedEx Field will be a dinosaur...

Jerry Jones is doing this because he realizes this is as close as the Dallas Cowboys are going to get to the Super Bowl.

skinsguy:
Be just a tad realistic here. Jerry Jones has THREE Super Bowl rings since he bought the team in the late 1980s. The Redskins have ONE and Danny Boy has NONE. Jerry Jones has already done a whole lot more than sniffed a Super Bowl; he's already won three of them in about 15 years of ownership. Danny Boy needs to get cracking if he wants to match that. What JJ wants is to be the "host" of the Super Bowl who gets all the perks and all the publicity as "the host". So does Danny Boy in the worst way. But until Danny Boy gets a roof on his playpen, it ain't gonna happen in DC in February. JJ knows that the hole in the Texas roof precludes a Super Bowl there and so he used that as part of his leverage to get Arlington TX to cough up about $400 - 500M in a bond issue to cost share with him a new stadium; it will be "Super Bowl Certified"; Paul Tagliabue has already said that. The Super Bowl is never as big a spectacle in "northern cities" as it is in the "sunny climes". It will be in Detroit next year and you can stand by to listen for the complaints from the media and the sponsors. The "big guys" go to the Super Bowl for parties and receptions and golf and that kind of stuff. There will no golfing outings in Detroit next February - just as there would be no golf outings in DC in February. The NFL will tolerate a "northern tier" Super Bowl once every 8 or 9 years, but the stadium has to have a lid.

Yeah I know the history, thanks for the lesson. But I was referring to the Dallas Cowboys and their recent history since all their Super Bowl stars have retired or went to other teams. Again I say, this will probably be as close as JJ will get to going to the Super Bowl.
