The Five Best You've Ever Seen (WR, RB, QB) (Don't Include Redskins)
Playing off the Top 32 All-Time WR Thread, let's do our own list.
Here are the groundrules: 1.) No Redskins can be on your list (to avoid homerism, for you fans of other teams-Sandtrap,Giantone-no Cowboys/Giants respectively) 2.) Has to be someone you actually saw play, whether at the game and/or on television. I know Jim Brown was awesome but I never saw him play so he doesn't make my list 3.) Order is not important, just the top 5 overall Quarterback 1. Joe Montana 2. John Elway 3. Tom Brady 4. Peyton Manning 5. Neil Lomax Running Back 1. Barry Sanders 2. Walter Payton 3. Roger Craig 4. Eric Dickerson 5. Bo Jackson Wide Receiver 1. Jerry Rice 2. Randy Moss 3. Jimmy Smith 4. Terrell Owens 5. Roy Green

re: The Five Best You've Ever Seen (WR, RB, QB) (Don't Include Redskins)
QB:
1. Montana 2. Peyton Manning 3. Marino 4. Brady 5. Favre / Elway (tie) RB: 1. Payton 2. Emmitt 3. Earl Campbell 4. Sanders 5. Simpson WR: 1. Rice 2. Moss 3. Harrison 4. Tim Brown 5. T.O. Cool thread. I believe Montana was the greatest football player of all time, and clearly my top QB. In the Emmitt / Barry debate, I'm probably in the minority, but I would take Emmitt every time since Barry often put his offense in a lot of 3-and-outs by losing 5 yards on first down dancing for the home run, whereas Emmitt would turn a 1 yard play into 3-4 yards by running much more decisively. Payton was probably a better blocker and receiver than both, so I give him the nod as the best RB that I saw. Rice is peerless at WR. |

re: The Five Best You've Ever Seen (WR, RB, QB) (Don't Include Redskins)
I was born in 1973 and became a Redskins when I was 4 years old.
So I will go only by who I saw or watched or remember since 1977. Except I will go in order of who I believed to be the best at that time. QB's ----------------- #1)Joe Montana=Greatest QB I ever saw...It's just that simple and without hesitation. #2)John Elway=You guys truly need to DVR the Chiefs @ Broncos Oct. 17th 1994 matchup to really appreciate both Elway and Montana. Some say Elway was the greatest...This game proved who was imo...None-the-less,Elway is a legend. #3)Peyton Manning=A true general on the field. Probably the Marino of his era, except he won the big game. #4)Tom Brady=Can't stand him..but even with bias...or excuse of scheme or whatever excuse a man can make or hatred he has for the cheating pats,he has to be on this list unfortunately. #5)Steve Young=Very intellegent and tough player of his own.very underated with compared to scrambling QB's imo...Imagine a young Michael Vick with smarts and awesome passing accuracy, but not quite as fast....Exactly..lol RB's ------------- #1)Walter Payton=You know a player is good, when even Cowboy fans admit Smith wasn't better than "sweetness".This guy has it all...speed,durability,strength..you name it? #2)Earl Campbell=Ever tried to tackle a tree?Ever tried to tackle 2 tree's? Well, that was Earl Campbell. Imagine trying to tackle a tough and fast RB with tree trunks for legs?People would rip his jersey off as he ran with the ball and he...kept...on...going! Unforunately,I was very young when I watched him,but it's branded into my brain of him rolling through pins as the bowling ball. #3)Barry Sanders=Probably the most dangerous RB I ever saw. hahah..lol You thought people had to completely focus on Brian Westbrook when he got the ball for the eagles when younger? If that scared you to death, then you never saw Barry Sanders. #4)Terrell Davis=I personally don't think a player should ever be in the HOF unless they have success + longevity. But that's just my opinion. But if I ever had to vote for someone to get in based on just success, no matter how long they played? Davis would be on my list. Some say Elway doesn't get his 2 rings without Davis. Either way,you can't deny the fact that Davis was a true beast at RB no matter the Shanahan Scheme #5).Bo Jackson=Same as Davis on the success + longevity thing. I have no doubt in my mind that had he had a long career,he would be discussed as the greatest RB ever..no doubt. The guy was a freak at the RB position. Much like Sean Taylor was at the safety position imo as both players careers were cut short...(Yes,I have no doubt in my mind, that had Sean Taylor played for a long time,he would be considered not just a HOFer,but the best at his position as well) same opinion from me on Bo Jackson as well. WR's ------------ I'll do later if I have time..

re: The Five Best You've Ever Seen (WR, RB, QB) (Don't Include Redskins)
QB:
Marino Manning Montana Brady Young RB: B. Sanders LT M. Faulk E. Smith I'd go with Dickerson because I do remember him playing but don't remember him that much so I'll go Curtis Martin with an honorable mention to umm.. maybe Jerome Bettis if you axe the last few years Wide Receivers: Rice Moss C. Carter T. Brown M. Harrison really hard to pick the WRs.. could've put on Lofton, Bruce, Holt, T.O., Reed, etc
