Lighten up...

I belong to 3 Skins boards, and let me tell you have pissed I am at all the negativity. If you though Gibbs was going to turn things around in a "New York minute", your on crack. Sure, I thought they'd do better, but look it takes time. Like I posted on another board, Jimmy Johnson during his 1st year, they won 1-2 games, next year, bam, contender. Just lighten up, enjoy the rest of the season, as tough as it may be, and ROOT FOR THE SKINS!!

I Think The Negativity Is Stemming From Us Beating Ourselves. I Knew The Skins Were Not A Playoff Contender But I Was Sure We Would Eliminate Stupid Penalties And The Mental Mistakes. That Is Why I Am So Negative

I like your frame of mind, i am constantly put down my friends for being the unrealistic,
over-optimisitic fan ... while i admit i can be a little unrealistic at times, i think a lot of my friends (who also are die hard skins fans) are actually pessimistic and not realists....

I dont think ereryone is so negetive as they are disapointed with the performance of our offense. We as diehard skin fans know that their performance on the field is pathetic at best. We will play a team that has trouble stoping the run and we throw the ball. Then we play a team that has trouble stoping the pass and we run the ball. This is Gibbs first year back and we all know that. We know how great he was in the past adjusting at half time to come out in win games in the third and forth quarters. I think he will sit back and study film from this year and make the needed adustments for next year. That is another reason for all the disapointment we keep saying wait till next year. So go Gibbs and go skins.

For my part in the negativity, I am still 100% behind Joe Gibbs and his staff and that will never change. I have never typed a bad word about Joe Gibbs on this board. However, any negativity I have typed is directed entirely towards some of these players that i have had about enough of. Namely, Stone hands Coles & Gardner & the king of the 3 yard punt return Chad Morton. Those are really the only individual players I have gotten on more than once. I am so tired of them consistently coming up small. I firmly believe that much of our offenses troubles are conected to Coles & Gardner constantly dropping the ball. You simply can't get in rythim offensively when every other pass is dropped. Now I am not stupid enough to think this is the only problem our offense is having, but it is a significant one. We need a true #1 WR that we can count on!

just to add to your thought... until, that is, the skins go 14-2 or 15-1 then you see them everyday spouting Joe Gibbs is God dogma whilst wearing their Redskins beer drinking hat and sporting a Patrick Ramsey for MVP sweatshirt, "Taylor Jacobs runs like the wind" sweatpants, official Redskins colors Nikes signed by Clinton Portis, and "Fred Smoot has me covered" thermal socks. Fairweather fans suck more than the teams they support or fail to support. I still wear my skins T-shirts and sweatshirts and people make comments in public about them. I just tell them I've been a skins fan since their first super bowl appearance. I was 10 or 11 years old then and bet a friend $1 they would beat the dolphins. Losing a dollar didn't change my mind about them then and a losing season this year isn't going to change the way I feel about them either.

I'm with you, bro. I've been a 'Skins fan since I saw them go up against Denver in '88 (I was only five at the time). We're all disappointed with this year, but I didn't expect them to make the playoffs. Hopefully we can do better in these last few weeks; the upcoming game is a great opportunity for a turnaround.

Hey you got cheated, because the Redskins beat the Dolphins in the Super Bowl! I'd be asking for that dollar!

I know what you're saying though LongTimeSkinsFan. I thought it quite comical when I started seeing an increase of New England jerseys around town! I have proudly been a Skins fan since about 1980...when I was just old enough to understand football! I remember in first grade one of my best friends came in with this autographed picture of Danny White and I took one look at my friend and laughed at him!

I just dont nkow how to feel about our offense anymore. I live in Texas now and fight with Cowboys fans all the time. I can always stick up for our defense, but even if our offense was below avg I would have an arugment. If we can just start calling some good plays and get somethign going.

I want us to have a high draft choice, but I want us to finish strong more than anything so we have momentum going into next year.

Yes they beat the crap out of the Dolphins the second time around. I'm talking about back in '73 when they played the Dolphins with Bob Griese at QB, Larry Csonka and Jim Kiick in the backfield, and the famed 'No-Name' defense. I believe they were the last team to have an undefeated season in both regular season and post season play. That's when I lost the $1!

If our team grossly underpreforms, and we obviously all agree that they have, why is their anything objectionable about - as fans - collectively exploring the reasons why we think they are struggling. That's objectivity, not negativity. I mean, what are we supposed to do, sit around and cheer and pretend that the team is decent? They aren't, and their performance this season has been radically incommensurate with what their talent level is generally believed to be. And this whole slew of people know saying "I didn't think they were a playoff team..." I seem to remember everyone and their mother jumping on the bandwagon before the season started, including sportswriters and broadcasters. And I don't think those were unrealistic expectations when you look at our roster.

Look, don't we have an obligations as Skins fans to intelligently critique our team? And even if that isn't obligated, isn't that what makes sites like this so much fun? I mean, who wants to read threads like "we lost, but everyone fought their guts out....nice try team" or "Brunell is a supersmart guy who's struggling a little bit, but is really a warrior." Not me! That type of blind optimism doesn't increase my intelligence as a fan. What I love about this site is that we all know the Skins real well and are all convinced we know how to fix them. Moreover, what motivates our fervent prognosticating and desparate criticisms is an intense love for the team, and genuine desire to see them improve. How anyone can be "pissed" at that is beyond me. That's what makes Skins fans the best in the world....even when our team is down and out (which let's face it, is pretty much every year), we follow them as intensely as if they were number one on the league. And when they are on top again, its gonna be that much sweeter for those of us who were there the whole time.

So like the rest of you I'll be waiting for them to turn things around, but until then, expect plenty more critical comments from me. Try not to get pissed about it.

Ahhhhh yes I had forgotten about that! George Allen's "over the hill gang" playing against the undefeated Miami Dolphins! Wasn't that like a 14 -7 or 7-6 game?

And Dave Butz..that is a name I haven't heard in quite a while! This guy was huge! And not huge as in fat or overally muscular, he was just a big big guy and played his position well!
