Ravens showing interest in McCants?
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/b...al-sports-more
Linebacker Adalius Thomas signed a three-year contract with the Ravens yesterday. Thomas started 11 games last season and recorded 34 tackles, four sacks and eight defended passes. Thomas, 26, made the Pro Bowl on special teams after registering 23 tackles, the best of any Raven. He missed the game because of injury. Heading into his fifth season out of Southern Mississippi, Thomas drew interest from at least one unidentified team but said from the outset of free agency that his first priority was to stay with the Ravens. "I'm excited about having the opportunity to remain with this team and make a Super Bowl run," he said. Thomas likely will head into training camp as the top backup at both outside linebacker positions behind Peter Boulware and Terrell Suggs. He missed the final three games of the regular season last year after sustaining an elbow injury in a collision with Ray Lewis against the Cincinnati Bengals on Dec. 7. Thomas had season-ending surgery but will be available by the team's first minicamp in late April. The Ravens will continue to use Thomas in third-down situations, rushing the passer from the defensive tackle position. "It's like some of our other players that we drafted and developed and watch grow as a player and a person," pro personnel director George Kokinis said. "He certainly brings a dimension on third downs with his ability to move inside, outside, spy, chase and come off the edge. That helps our defense as well as his contributions, as everyone knows, to special teams. Having a caliber player like that, along with a guy that is good in the community, is good to have back with us." Meanwhile, Ravens officials confirmed that the team has yet to make an offer for Pro Bowl defensive tackle Warren Sapp. Sapp's name, though, has been linked with the Ravens and a handful of other teams through much of the offseason. Published reports have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers free agent wanting to have a signed contract by the end of this week, but it is likely that Sapp will remain a free agent for at least another week. Sapp wrote on his Web site that the Ravens were one of six teams he was considering. Sapp reportedly is mulling over a four-year, $16 million offer from the Bengals. The Ravens, meanwhile, have had only preliminary discussions with Sapp's agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Rosenhaus could not be reached for comment. Sapp, 31, is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection. The Buccaneers are no longer in the running to re-sign Sapp. Also, the Ravens have expressed interest in Washington Redskins receiver Darnerien McCants, who is a restricted free agent, according to his agent, Harold Lewis. |

I hope not, I really would like to see McCants here again for a few more years, at the very least.

I am pretty sure the McCants wants to stay with the Redskins from an article that I read on redskins.com awhile ago, but how does the offer sheet work? I mean does the player have to accept it for it to become ligit, or does the team accept it?

Well if Brandon Short declined ours, could McCants do the same thing to the Ravens if he wanted too? I cant seeing them offering him that much money, or somthing we couldnt match. I mean I think very highly of McCants but I dont see anyone giving him alot of money

He can decline, if he wants. He can use it as leverage while dealing with the Skins, though.

McCants would probably take anything in terms of a offer sheet. He's still at the point in his career where anything is better than a tendered offer sheet.

$$ talks guys, if the offer is right McCants would be crazy to not accept it. Plus he'd have a better shot at more playing time in B-more than here.

True, Matty. I wouldn't be all that sad to see him go anyways. I think Jacobs is gonna be a star.

At this point he could proboly start in Baltimore, be at least a #2 depdning on what the do in the draft ( they dont have a #1). I would love to retain him, but I hope it works out for him not matter what happens, I really like him alot.

They need a true go to reciever in B'more. McCants isn't that. Don't really see what he would give them other than depth.

Personally I think it would have to a fairly considerable amount of money for Mcants to move on, he is a smart guy who I think will see the advantages playing in a gibb's system, as well he is as exited as we are that gibb's is back.

I want McCants to stay a Redskin. But if there is another team that would be very tempting to him, I'd guess that it would be Baltimore, considering that he grew up in between DC and B-more. Besides money, he'd have to weigh (possibly) more playing time verses playing for Gibbs. I'd prefer playing for a HOF coach.

We still got Taylor Jacobs on contract, and with Spurrier gone, three should be enough.

What round did we draft McCants? If he's restricted and signs with Baltimore, we'd get a draft pick as compensation- does anyone know what round he was drafted, and if we would get that pick this year or next year?
I love McCants, especially in the Red Zone. He always ends up on the other teams 3rd corner or safety and beats them every time with his size, hands and jumping ability. I hope we keep him, but I hope we don't have to pay a ridiculous amount to retain him... |
