The next to last question has an interesting answer, in 2008, no more draft. Players will come out of college as free agents and sign wherever they can.

This shit is insane. I can't believe what a piece of shit Gene Upshaw is. He's going to decertify the players' union? For what? 1% of the revenue sharing. The players are going to be hating it, although look for people to come to the Redskins cause you know Danny is going to take care of his boys. This still sucks though, the NFL is about to drastically change.

Re: Some basic answers about the CBA from ESPN

Here was the most amazing quote in that article:

Quote:
What happens if a team doesn't comply with the salary cap?
No team has ever gone over the salary cap, so this is a bit of an unknown. Could Commissioner Paul Tagliabue penalize a team by taking away draft picks? Or could there be fines? With some teams in dire cap shape, we could find out sooner rather than later. The Washington Redskins are one team to watch in this regard, since some other clubs which have studied the Redskins' cap closely have suggested Washington cannot mathematically get into compliance.

The big question is, can they renegotiate enough deals to get in compliance. The real doomsday scenario is if they can't. With only six hours left, we'll see. Because of the special 2006 rules, it is not that easy to do -- even with willing players. The best scenario possible is if they find a way to renegotiate enough deals to actually put them under the cap for 2K6 far enough that they will be able to be players in the FA market.

I don't really understand what happens if a team does stay over the cap. I guess they would be forced to forfeit games, that would make sense. What if they let em play over the cap, though? I have no idea what's going on...

I just love Daniel Snyder. He does everything he can to help this team win. I don't understand how anyone can not like this man... If crippling the cap, and possibly the draft helps Washington win, they'll be Superbowl champions next season.

in his defense, if we make the playoffs in 2006, then the cba totally cripples your ability to sign FAs (the restrictions on playoff teams in FA are super harsh). so by sucking, we'll be able to sign every star college athlete and any available free agents pretty readily.

there's no way. if we cut everybody but the 13 that are cheaper to keep, we'd have 34 rookies and a 47 man team. no way we can even make enough back to pay draft picks and keep half the current players, much less go out and sign people.

I think you completely missed my point....

What I was trying to say is that cutting players will leave us over the cap (thought I was pretty clear). The only shot we have is renegotiating deals.

The question with redoing the deals is if it is even possible under the current year rules to create enough space to be under, and if so, will enough players "step up".

If the Ashburn brain trust HAS a method for doing this and enough players willing to deal, then the question becomes, is it possible to get below the cap enough to raid the about to be depressed FA market.

BTW, I think the key to pulling this off actually means making a commitment to Lavar.

Re: Some basic answers about the CBA from ESPN

on espn they were talking about what would happen if somone went over the cap. The analyst laughed and said there was talk that the skins would basically be like **** it. We're going to keep our players and we don't care. He said there would be fines and draft penalties. He then said that snyder could pay all the fines and the skins can't even sign draft picks if they are over the cap so it makes no difference...

wouldn't we get DQ'd in every game if we were over at kickoff?

Re: Some basic answers about the CBA from ESPN

This is exactly why I have said that the Redskins are in actually pretty good position as opposed to the many who have said that we would be in trouble. Look they will renegotiate the bonuses for 4 years to extend the cap number. Cut the players who are due big money and who are not a vital cog in the wheel.

Also this section from ESPN is significant to us.
How does all of this affect the 2006 NFL draft?
Signing draft choices will be more difficult this year, because teams can prorate signing bonuses over only four seasons. Already, agents figure the most a top draft choice can make under that scenario is $15 million, a major reduction from recent years. That likely will lead to long holdouts by draft choices.

Since we have positioned ourselves with few draft choices we are at an advantage as compared to others. Also in the uncapped year who else is going to out spend the Dan.

That's part of the problem. A lot of analysts are saying that cutting big money people will actually cost more towards the cap. The only real option is to restructure a ton of deals.

Re: Some basic answers about the CBA from ESPN

Yeah, Arrington costs more to cut than keep. It actually costs us 600k more to cut him. We really need people to restructure, but it's getting late in the day, so we might see what happens if a team stays over the cap.

There is a line in that article on ESPN that says that other teams have studied our cap and don't think it's mathematically possible to get under the cap. I guess if we get a bunch of restructuring done we'll be okay, but like I said, it's getting late.
