Nice article. It's all very straight forward--no mystery, no "circumventing the cap" and what have you. It's pretty amazing to me that the national media didn't understand this.

Nice to see we still have plenty of additional room, and will get more most likely after June 1st.

Washington: The Redskins were saved from salary-cap hell by the new CBA extension, which freed up another $7 million-plus of cap space, allowing them to avoid having to dismantle their roster. So what do they do? Rush right out and get themselves mortgaged back up to the gills, tossing out a staggering $31.8 million, six-year contract to the Rams' Adam Archuleta, making him the richest safety in NFL history.

Receiver Antwaan Randle El and linebacker Andre Carter also got hefty deals, and Washington opted to send both a third- and fourth-round pick to San Francisco in exchange for inconsistent receiver Brandon Lloyd. Even reserve tight end Fauria and backup quarterback Todd Collins got in on the money train.

The Redskins' set-the-market contracts are bound to catch up to them one day. My guess is it'll be after head coach Joe Gibbs calls it a career for a second time, in a year or two.

Yeah it's stuff like this that makes my blood boil. He calls his column "Snap Judgments", which is exactly what they are. A bunch of assertions in which some national writer simply jumps to conclusions.

National media in general just bother me. They act like they know everything, yet they cover such a broad scope of material that they don't have the time to actually be knowledgable about any one subject. Banks clearly doesn't understand how the basics of the salary cap work, he clearly doesn't understand the Redskins' books, and yet he writes a column passing judgment and acting like he knows what he's talking about. It's absurd.

Local articles, like this Times article that Matty mentioned, are the best way to get your NFL news. Those reporters actually have time to know their team, since that team is all they cover.

We won't hear from Jenkins until the Skins first loss of the season, or any other sign that the team is struggling. She's like a vulture, only coming out when times are tough, ready to kick dirt on the team.

I'm kinda surprised Sally hasn't written the obligatory "Skins flashy offseason--Same old story, Cap Hell coming soon" type article. Maybe it'll come yet. Or maybe a pre-trial anti-Taylor rant? A pro Ramsey as Jet puff piece?

In the new cba you can release 2 players as old post june 1 cuts at any time (so the player hits FA earlier and the team gets its cap savings).
