The State of Redskins Nation

Woah everbody, don't push the panic button yet. Let's step back and take a true inventory of the team and the upcoming season:

1) The Portis injury is not devastating. He banged up and will miss the remained of the preseason. His is a 4 - 6 week deal, and if he's smart, he'll sit out the first game if he's not 100%.
2) Brunell is still out money maker. As he goes, we go. Let's stop trying to get Jason elevated, he's not gonna take us to a Super Bowl this year.
3) Our defense is awesome. Enough said.
4) This is our year to make "the run". We have a team capable of winning 11 or 12 games. Brunell just needs to not have ints. We won't win pretty, but we'll win.

This is the year to make a run but the one fatal flaw with this team is depth. They dont have much on either side of the ball. Hopefully they can stay fairly injury free and the depth wont be an issue but if they cant well I dont want to think about that.

Sheesh, where is the faith??? It's not like we are playing our first real game tomorrow. The coaches have plenty of time to knock heads around and get us prepared. I still think we will be fine. However, I'm getting sick and tired of CP saying he never should have been in that game. It looks bad, makes him look like all he cares about is himself, and that he doesn’t have faith in Coach Gibbs to make the right choices. I understand his frustration that he got hurt, but he said it once and that was enough, he didn't need to repeat it yesterday to the media, and also add that he is too high caliber of a player to be in a pre-season game....that annoyed me. He is part of the TEAM and should act like it. Coach Gibb's intention wasn't to turn him into a defensive player, he just wanted him to carry the ball a few times. CP wasn't sounding much like a Redskin yesterday, but rather a frustrated, spoiled brat.

What team doesn't have a problem with depth?

I'm really not that concerned about Portis.

Betts is more than capable of starting some games for us.

I still expect CP will be ready to go week 1.

I think he'll be ready, but I keep reading all these articles talking about how it's going to be a nagging injury and how other teams are going to key on it and blitz more causing him to use it.

It has the potential to be a nagging injury, but it's still too early to tell how it may effect him the rest of the season.

Right. I know that there are no guarantees one way or another, but damn if it doesn't bother me.

I'm still pretty positive about this season. I'll agree with Portis though, I don't mind less preseason games if it means keeping the starters happy....that or either just don't play any starters during the entire preseason, so as to develop depth.

Re: The State of Redskins Nation

I think people are reading too much into our dept due to the first preseason game. Yes the 2nd O line looked bad as a unit but they will not be on the field as a unti but one or two here and there to play with the first unit. With the second unit if you have two of the five missing their blocking assignments then the whole unit will look bad. Yes Cinny did look better but like as most other teams they have had at least an extra week of training camp over the skins. We have a great coaching staff and they will have them ready to play come the 11th. Just remember they are trying out alot of new guy most of which won't make the team but we have enough to choose from to find the quality back ups.

I think this is why we have guys that play several positions- so we can put in the best guy, not that back up for that position.

Gibbs teams are notorious for bad pre-seasons then having good seasons.

Re: The State of Redskins Nation

I had the very same injury as Portis a few years ago. My shoulder popped out and then back into place. It was very painful. However, after about a week I was playing golf. I am not worried about the injury affecting him much once it has healed.

I agree, we really do not need portis the first couple of games, I say we play him limited the first couple games so he is good to go for the regular season.

Re: The State of Redskins Nation

One good thing that came out of our first preseason game, Campbell has been, atleast for the time being, moved up to the number two spot at QB. Because of Collins poor play, Gibbs has put Campbell at number for the next game. We can all agree that was a good move, and now we can see that Campbell's progression is being noticed by the coaches.
