What the Redskins Mean to You

It sucks that we suck...but before we all kill ourselves in frustration over this season, lets take a moment and remember why we're Skins fans. What do the redskins mean to you?

To me...they mean family, my Grandpa and my Dad passed their love of the team down to me and my brother. I love getting together with them to watch games.

Grew up with them, lost with them, won with them, now lost some more. But it doesn't matter. THey are my team, and you suffer when they lose just as you rejoice when they win.

We're all extremely dissapointed. But that's the nature of being a fan, sometimes. I will always savor being at Fed Ex last week for that crazy win. Yes, this week sucks, and we've had some lean years here. But we're skins fans. We'll stick by the team, arguing and bitching, sure, but we'll stick by the team.

What are ya gonna do, become a cowroids fan? A Colts fan just becuase they're winning this year? COme on! This is the life we've chosen. THis is our thing. Wish it didn't depress me so much, but there it is!

Re: What the Redskins Mean to You

amen to that...I think its harder for us younger fans sometimes. I've never seen the redskins go beyond the second round of the playoffs. I vaguely remember the 91 playoff game against the falcons where everyone started throwing seat cushions onto the field...still, just gotta keep believing. I will say this though. That very same grandpa that passed his redskins love down to me is getting quite old. I talked to him today after the game, and he said, "they better get it together, I keep saying next year, but I don't even know if there will be a next year for me." It was depressing, and it made me think about what this team means to some people.

I still have two seat cushions from the Atlanta playoff win

I actually think it's easier being too young to remember the 91 playoffs/Super Bowl. This team has been bad for as long as I can remember. It's easier because I don't expect them to be good. When they are I'm ecstatic, but it's more common for me to sit through really bad seasons. Just more of the same for me.

Re: What the Redskins Mean to You

I have grown up watching them play ever since I was 5 years old. Joe Gibbs and Joe Bugel seem like family members to me. Even though they have not been a good team for quite awhile, I still believe it's uncharacteristic of them to lose. I still look at my team in the same light as I did our team from the 80's. I expect them to win every game.

I know how that goes...I'm pretty worthless on Sundays, and I'd probably do better in school if the Redskins didn't exist...Ive even thought about moving back up there after school just to be closer to the team

All joking aside (which is rare for me) I cannot give a good response to this at the moment. Maybe tomorrow..........tough to watch the team be this bad

Re: What the Redskins Mean to You

Went to my first game in 1997 when Jack Kent Cooke stadium opened and loved them ever since. Season tickets have been in my family since the 70's and we all root together. I live to go to the home games and my schedule revolves around the Redskins. When I get home everyday I come to this site to discuss the Skins. I have basically only own Skins clothing for when I go out. I LOVE THE REDSKINS!!! I will always root for my team no matter what and I will always look down on those who seem to stray away when the going gets tough. It's times like these we need to come together and show who we really are. We need to be there for our team as they finish this season strong. We all want the best for our boys and at this point, hope is going to get us through this season as the team goes through a real identity crisis. HAIL ALWAYS!!

hey...atleast we're not cardinals fans right? There's hope that we'll get better, and a past to fall back on.

Re: What the Redskins Mean to You

I started watching back in '79.

I don't have the same feelings for the NFL as I did back then, the game has changed and not for the better. Society has changed, and not for the better.

The Redskins have changed......certainly not for the better. Gibbs coming back gave me a false hope that we'd have our Camelot again.

There was a team pride that I don't think people have any more. It's all about the $$$ now.

If you do not care for the NFL then do not watch NFL football games. Yes the game has changed in many ways. If you do not like it then do not watch it. WTF does modern society compared to the '70's society have one thing to do with modern pro football? The Redskins have changed in what ways? Gibbs, Camelot, WTF? Are you from England. I think you meant Canton. "There was a team pride...." WTF? I wear my burgundy and gold in june and july. Where is yours? Is it sitting in the closet until august? Oh and yeah, $ makes the world go 'round. I'd bet you were not ripping us when Danny purchased(the greatest group in the world) the Washington Redskins for about $700 million.

p.s. Portis was earning the league min. when we traded for him.

Hail
