Quick Recap

For those who didn't have access to the game.

Overall the team looked good on both sides of the ball. Special teams played really well too. Both Frost and Suisham did good jobs.

Up until Cambell left the game with the knee injury, I thought he was sharp. My heart was in my mouth when Campbell hit the turf.

Five players that really impressed me:

Rocky McIntosh: Kid was flying to the ball all night. Mostly in the backfield. He looks like a totally different guy from last year. You can really tell the lights are coming on for this guy.

Jason Cambell: Thought he played well. Was very poised and most of his passes on the money. He didn't play long, but he looked good overall.

LaRon Landry: Seems like they played him in the box quite a bit tonight. He forced a few run plays inside for losses and was in on some tackles. He moves to the ball with full force. The kid's a beast.

Todd Collins: I was pleasantly suprised to see him step in and step up. I think Brunell could be number 3 on the depth chart before it's over.

Gregg Williams: I know it's early, but it seems like he has these guys having fun again, and you can tell they buy into the system. I sense a good year on the defensive side.

Other notables: Mike Pucillo held his own and looked comfortable. He nearly played the entire game. First half at guard, second half at center. Like I said, he looked comfortable out there.

Sean Taylor isn't trying to be a hero. I noticed he was barking signals, tuggin guys on the jersey and putting them in position. I saw #30 on more plays than #21. That's a good thing.

Chris Cooley was Chris Cooley. He looks like he's ready for the Dolphins.

Re: Quick Recap

The offensive line looked a lot better.

Campbell looked good. Two sustained drives of 10+ plays.

Collins knows his reads and played well. I don't think he could make the finals of punt, pass, and kick though. Very soft arm.

Running game was poor again, but it is the Steelers.

Our bottom tier recievers, Berman et al, are horrible. No wonder they're bringing in people off the street.

Defense looked good again. The LBers shined tonight.

If I were to make a criticism of the defense it would be that there was poor tackling at times.

Special teams was solid, although Mike Espy is no Mike Nelms.

Someone needs to tell Theesman that it's Dallas SaRTZ. The Dallas Stars are a hockey tem, I think.

Re: Quick Recap

Yeah, the guys weren't wrapping up tonight. Even London Fletcher had a guy run through him.

Re: Quick Recap

Much improved difference with the OL. I feel a lot better about them, and hopefully when Samuels is back for game one, we won't even have any concerns for the offensive line.

Glad that Campbell wasn't seriously hurt. I was holding my breathe when I saw him down holding his knee! It's funny, last week we won and I was uneasy about our team. This week, we lose but I am feeling much better about them.

Gibbs said Espy is done for the year. Ruptured achilles, maybe. But he's done.

This really sucks for him. He didnt look like he did last preseason thus far, but I was really pulling for him. Apperently he was one of the hardest workers on the team (From Ray Brown, not Gibbs).

I hope he'll be able to make it back next year.

Re: Quick Recap

Thanks, 12th.

Just watched the live presser on skins.com. Gibbs seem down (as you'd expect), but said that everyone thinks Campbell is just bruised--no word on how long. Said Marcus had xrays--no bone chips, etc--again it looks like a bruise. But he said he thinks Espy is done for the year. Very tough for the kid.

Said D ahead of O--very disappointed about run blocking. Singled out Landry and Rocky as playing well.

Then Campbell himself addressed the media--he limped in, said it was scary but everyone says it's a bruise, very glad it wasn't ACL or MCL, felt like they were in a good rhythm on the drive he was hurt on.

Scary!

Just saw a Campbell interview. I think they'll hold him out next week. Maybe they'll let Collins and Brunell duke it out!!

You know, you're right....I just wanted to give Brunell the benefit of the doubt. I think at the least, Palmer needs to be on the practice squad.

I agree, but the only negative about Collins is that he is not mobile at all. I remember on 3rd down he tried to run, and I was thinking if that was Brunell running, it would have been a first.

Also, he has a really weak arm. I think defenses would very quickly have a solution for a QB that doesn't throw past ten yards. It's good to throw to the backs and tight ends, but at some point you have to be able to deliver the 18 yard out before the CB jumps it. We would be very limited with him in the game.

Of course, Brunell has his own drawbacks. He holds the ball too much and he melts under pressure. But, his arm looked pretty strong last night. He plays better at the end of games when he HAS to throw the ball. Before that point he plays too cautiously.

It's a tossup. Bottom line is that without Campbell we won't have much offense. He needs to play. I would let Brunell backup based on the salary cut he took. I really don't see Collins as an improvement anyway.

They're saying a couple of weeks for Marcus Washington...that's unofficial though.

Re: Quick Recap

Everyone seems to think Campbell's injury is not serious -- just a bruise -- but they haven't done an MRI yet, right? The way he went down with his knee in going in a direction it's not supposed to go, I thought our season was over before it started.

If comes out of this with no serious injury, then Campbell is truly He-Man.

Let's see Todd Collins get some more time with the starters.
