1999 draft, Ricky (spleef) Williams trade
Initially we made a great trade getting all of NO draft picks and basically gave most of them away to Chicago to move up and draft Champ Bailey. Out of that draft what do we have to show? John Jansen and I guess you say Clinton Portis. We could have had a Dallas type draft like the Herschel Walker trade, but no we fudged it up!!
# Trades # The Redskins traded their first rounder (#5) to the Saints for a first (#12), third (#71), fourth (#107), fifth (#144), sixth (#179) and seventh (#218) round pick in this year's draft, and a first and third round selection in 2000. # The Bears traded their first rounder (#7) to the Redskins for a first (#12), third (#71), fourth (#106), fifth (#143) in this year's draft, and the lower of the two third round picks in 2000. # The Bears traded their second rounder (#37) to the Redskins for a second (#40) and fifth (#144) round pick in this year's draft. # The Redskins traded their sixth (#179) and seventh (#218) round pick to the Broncos for a fifth-round pick (#165). Picks Rnd No Name Position School Height Weight 40-time 1 7 (7) Roland "Champ" Bailey CB Georgia 6'0 184 4.42 2 6 (37) Jon Jansen RT Michigan 6'6 307 5.3 4 12 (107) Nate Stimson LB Georgia Tech 6'1 260 4.6 5 32 (165) Derek Smith LT Virginia Tech 6'6 310 5.45 6 12 (181) Jeff Hall K Tennessee 5'11 190 - 7 11 (217) Tim Alexander WR Oregon State 5'11 185 4.6

Re: 1999 draft, Ricky (spleef) Williams trade
We are long overdue for a great draft. The real value of the draft is being able to find starting quality/solid performers in rounds 4-7. So by that measure, we have Anthony Montgomery, Kedric Golston, and Rock Cartwright to be thankful for.
Thankfully, recently, they've been able to avoid the ultimate disasters: picking busts in the early rounds. The biggest obstacle is having all your draft picks, and this is the first time since 2002 we've had this many. Hopefully Vinny hits this one out of the park. |

I don't remember what we traded to get the #2 and #3 overall picks in the 2000 draft, but we did get Chris Samuels out of it.
