Redskins Release WR/KR Jerome Mathis

The Redskins have signed undrafted rookie defensive lineman Jonathan "J.T." Mapu, the team announced on Thursday.

To make room for Mapu on the roster, the Redskins have released wide receiver and kick returner Jerome Mathis.

ah well. was kinda looking forward to seeing what he could offer our kick return game. but rock is solid (as a rock. get it?... okay, fine. sorry.) and devin thomas could probably step in and push him.

didn't need dude when we got him and need him even less now

This is no surprise. Drafting Thomas and Kelly should have been writing on the wall for Mathis.

No doubt. Not to mention that Thomas is a very good return guy as well.

I doubt we'll see a collective 'oops' from the sky is falling crowd who thought this was the end of the Redskins franchise when he was signed.

With Thomas having KR experience and Rock we should be good at that position..

Beware of the inevitable 'Koren Robinson' inquiries to flood this thread.

If he can stay off the liquor, I actually like Koren. It's just a 50/50 shot that he'll make it through a season without being suspended.

I was kinda routing for Mathis, I have a softspot for local guys. This might be good news for Thrash somewhat too.

Is Mapu the second coming of Big Joe?

Yet another bonehead move by our FO. Snyder and Cerrato need to be fired, as well as Zorn.

(Yes, this is sarcasm. I am pretty bored today... )

I think it was just some insurance in case they did not get the receivers they wanted in the draft...

Re: Redskins Release WR/KR Jerome Mathis

I wonder if any other WR, like James Thrash might get cut, but good signing for depth on DT.

What could of been, should of been, would of been.....who cares. Chances of making the team were a long shot anyways. We got Rock, Thomas and even Tryon was taking smack that he would get us to the fifty every time.

Re: Redskins Release WR/KR Jerome Mathis

Yeah, the Mapu signing could be decent. He started for Tennessee. I remember him doing a decent job stuffing the run when Florida played against him. Plus if he went on a 2 year church mission you know he's of high character and work ethic. I hope he pans out.
