Should the Skins' FO pick up the phone...

... and should they call the Jacksonville Jaguars regarding a trade.

The Jags signed free-agent OT, Tra Thomas, this winter. Then they drafted Eugene Monroe and Eban Britton two weeks ago. That makes for three potentially NFL caliber tackles on the roster.

In addition, the Jags had someone who played OT for them last year; and while he may not have been an All-Pro player at the position, he was an NFL-caliber player. That offensive tackle was Tony Pashos. [No, I could not pick him out of a line-up with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.]

Nonetheless, should the Skins call the Jags and find a way to acquire either Pashos or one of the guys that the Jags drafted to play OT?

I know that if I were the Skins' GM - - and be thankful that I am not - - I would see what the price was to acquire any one of the Jags' four tackles - - Thomas, Pashos, Monroe or Britton. Unless one of the two draftees is a total stiff, it seems to me that any of these four beats to all Hell what is on the roster now as players competing to be the right tackle on offense...

You might want to post the link from the Michael Lombardi article.

As for Pashos id just roll with the guys we got now. If we traded for him I wouldnt mind but I say just let Williams, Bridges, Heyer, and Jansen battle it out.

Yeah, the Lombardi article from Friday is the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread as well.

Here it is

The National Football Post | Diner Morning News: Trade Bait

Quote:
If I were working for the ‘Skins, I would call Jacksonville about the availability of right offensive tackle Tony Pashos.

The Redskins’ offensive line is a mess. It’s old and injury prone, making the prospect of a successful 2009 season seem unlikely. Worse, there are no signs of finding reinforcements during the preseason. Jacksonville signed former Eagle Tra Thomas this offseason to be the starter at left tackle, then drafted two more tackles in the first two rounds — Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton. They now have three tackles besides Pashos who are locks to make the team.

Even though Pashos has been a starter, he does have limitations in his athletic ability and the type of protection schemes the offense must run. Had this been the ‘Skins’ offense of old (Joe Gibbs’ offense) featuring mostly slide protection, Pashos would fit perfectly. Pashos is the kind of player that ‘Skins offensive line guru Joe Bugel would love — tough, gritty, hard working and willing to do whatever he needs to be successful. The ‘Skins can’t feel that current right tackle Jon Jansen can perform in all 16 games from an injury and performance standpoint. They must find an alternative, and I doubt it will be former Buffalo Bills first rounder Mike Williams of Texas.

If we traded picks everyone would be arguing on how stupid Danny is for trading them.

We could trade them a player. It's more likely that any trades we make won't happen until teams start to cut down at the end of the exhibition season or until we have an injury to a projected starter.

True, but it doesn't matter how stupid "WE" think it is, it matters if it translates to wins.
Believe it or not, Theo Epstien (GM Red Sox) got a TON of crap for trading Garciaparra in 04...turned out to be a genius move and won us the series. No one questioned it after we won, in fact, those that said it was dumb, turned around and said it was the bold move the Sox needed to win it all.
It's all about how it works. I'd trade every single draft pick next year for a super bowl win. But only for a super bowl WIN.

Funny that you said that, it reminded me of something that I heard on the radio last season. A study came out that revealed that a large percentile of men (somewhere between 70%-90%) would give up sex for 3 months if their team could win the SuperBowl. I fall into that category.

Re: Should the Skins' FO pick up the phone...

The Redskins do not need to panic and try to make a trade to aquire a RT. Camp has not even started yet to see what our own guys look like. I hate to say it but if we can't pick up a player who is released during the 53 man roster cuts than we just have to make do with what we have on our roster. Thats why postion coaches get paid to coach up the young players. As far as injuries well they happen anytime. If our O-line doesn't play well this season than maybe 2010 draft we will address that positon. Save our picks and coach up our young players. If Chris Horton can make a impact why can't a young O-Lineman do the same. We have to fined out if our backups can play, if not get rid of them.

Angry:

If indeed the Skins won the Super Bowl; and as a result, you gave up sex for 3 months, you might need to change your screen name.

May I - - ever so humbly - - suggest that it morph into "Depraved Whilst Deprived"?

In other words, they'd get married if their team won the Super Bowl? LOL

I thought they were going to release Pashos? Honestly, I think right now any trade is not worth it. Let's keep our picks.
