Kevin Barnes sounds ready to step up

I like the confidence in his statements. CB's have to be confident!

“The best thing I did last year is learn how to practice,” Barnes said. “I went out there every day even though I wasn’t sure I was going to play that Sunday and I dominated every day of practice and gave the coaches a fit. That really built my confidence, so once I really got in there, I made a few things happen. I just know that I’m really capable of playing at that level now.”

Also, sounds like the FO is getting the message out loud and clear, you want to start/play here, prove it on the field. Great message, great culture change.

Good to hear. We NEED another CB to step up and push or replace Carlos. Barnes is capable.

Lets just hope we don't draft Jahvid Best...he'll be afraid to practice and we'll have another Portis on our hands.

Carlos is confident and he's a dick, Kevin is and it's great.

Fact is, every CB has to be cocky as hell and think they're the best guy in the NFL. Every CB gets beat, it's just how it is -- that attitude is what allows them to bounce back that next play and lock him down. I love the attitude, look forward to seeing him play the nickle this year.

If Carlos could catch an INT and not blow assignments, he would be considered a lot less of a dick. If there's true competition at CB this year, unless we bring in a proven FA, Barnes will be a starter before the halfway point of this season.

Carlos is far and away our best CB. Hall gets INTs, but also gets worked far more than Carlos. Do I wish he caught those balls? Sure. Is he Asoumough (sp?) or Revis? No, he's not. But he's a top 20 corner in the league, in my opinion. His job is to not let the receiver catch the ball, he does that more than not. Blache and Williams are also known for leaving these guys on islands, most DCs help out their corners with safeties, that wasn't our plan most of the time.

I didn't say who Barnes would beat out

I think Rogers, when focused and motivated, is our best corner. I also believe we will be playing more man and the D will be more "here's your assignment, execute" vs. Blache's "if the O is doing this, here's how you react". I also believe Barnes has a great deal of talent and is motivated to break into the line-up. Between Rogers/Hall, one of them will screw up enough to give Barnes his shot. Once he gets it, I think he'll make the most of it.

Also, a lot of things can happen between now and the beginning of the season, Rogers or Hall might not even be here in Sept.

All I know is he plays pretty well on Madden '10.

Good to hear from the second year guy though. Let's hope JH will use the kid to the best of his ability.

Haha KB's a beast in madden.. especially in 2011 and 2012....

I'd love to see him step up this year, hopefully he'll actually get some playing time now that blache's gone.

Yeah I play him in the nickel roll and has been able to pic up around 4-5 pics a year in my franchise.

If he could become that player I think we all would love the guy. Of course in video game world I also had JC break the passing touchdown record with like 58 in my 2011 season. The same year Devin Thomas and Marko Mitchell made the probowl, and Portis had somewhere around 1500 yards. So it may not be an acurate way to break down a players ability.

Also I think the bears offered me a second round pick for Santana Moss with I glady excepted. So in the world of Madden anything is possible.

As far as how KB will play next year in real life against live talented players we will all see.

Agreed. I've heard similar things out of multiple guys that went on to either blow up or be nothing more then average. JP Losman is one that comes to mind right away for me. I also think we heard similar things out of Malcolm Kelly last offseason. Either way I'll wait until I see it on the field, hopefully he's right though.
