Nice quote from Snyder:
"It’s exciting again, but it’s going to take some time. We’re going to be patient and build something special here."

No question we've got some real pros running the show now. But we're still in the honey moon phase. If we win 4-7 games which could happen cause the schedule is tougher then we're going to try and run these guys out of town. Let's remember that although Shanahan is a great game day coach he did have his share of failures in Denver. And Allen had his in Tampa. But everyone gets fired in the NFL. I know we're in good hands but the future is now plan does worry me.

Think about what you said. If they fail why would he think thats the way a front office should be run. We kind of said the same thing about Gibbs II.

Positive vibes about the Redskins are always welcome, especially after being ridiculed (and rightfully so) for such a long time. It creates a much different perception when you employ people who know and understand the game of football.

I'd say Gibbs II was the same dysfunctional FO as always. Gibbs is a coach -- not an FO guy. Vinny was still running the show back then, IMO.

Everyone plays nice...it's the honeymoon phase. When Shanahan doesn't perform I'm guessing the dream will come to an end.

Agreed. I'm through getting too excited about this organization in the offseason. For sure this is as stable as the team structure has been since Snyder bought the Skins, but until I see it on the field....

the scary thing is when marty was here he half righted the ship and was kicked outta town. i'm with you i've been dissapointed by this team too many times in the past few years. it feels different this year but i'm still going into the season thinking that 8-8 would be a pretty damn good year

I agree. I think we need to be optimistic, but just because Vinny is gone and Allen is GM doesn't mean squat. Too many questions need to be answered all around to get overly excited. What has Shanny won post Elway? Even post Elway, he had more solid weapons in Denver to work with, including a rather green Portis, than he has here. I think it is still a 50/50 proposition that these guys build something. As for the so called change in direction? Our draft was rather lackluster to say the least minus the McNabb acquisition. This team is still heavily relying on free agency, although we will never see ridiculous sums being paid to future free agents again thank goodness. The only change I see thus far is exactly that, no more huge ass contracts. It is nice we got McNabb, but really do you think he is going to win a SB? Before we got him, many in here were calling him McChoke, etc. Don't get me wrong I like Donovan alot and I didn't think he was McChoke in Philly, but our WR corp minus Santana is very suspect. Donovan might be able to get them to improve their game, but they also can bring Donovan down also if they don't step it up. |

I will say this though, for the first time in like 5-6 years we are not predicted to be the cellar dwellers in the NFC East in a majority of the preseason rags out now. 8-8 seems to be the consensus prediction. THere is reason for optimism. I won't drink the Kool Aid just yet though. Spurrier cured me of that!!!!!

Re: Shanahan and Allen form dream front office in D.C.
Yeah my giddiness is contained at the moment but I can't wait to get it underway. It's not like Shanahan had a great last few years he was coaching but pretty much every elite coach has had a similar run. The fact that he took the year off from football and used it mostly to study the game and perhaps adjust his approach to his own coaching, much the same as Coach K does at Duke, rather than stay stuck in his ways speaks a lot for his commitment to the game.
There's no doubt in my mind that we will field a much better product than we've seen over the past several years; it will remain to be seen if we can reach the upper echelon of the NFL though. |

I am thinking Snyder will have some patience. How long was he patient with Turner? I would like to believe that he might still turn to Coach Gibbs for advice.
